Their Paranormal Tales #3

I Do Believe in Faeries

Rate this book
Abby knew that life wasn’t fair.
That’s why she turned to the Fair Ones.

Abby thinks she’s a disappointment. Even though she’s grown up in a family of powerful witches, she can’t use magick, she can’t connect to nature, she can’t do anything special – she’s just a normal human.

And normal isn’t good enough for her.

When a group of faeries offer her one wish, she doesn’t hesitate to wish for magick of her own. But wishes require a sacrifice. And that sacrifice is her friend Alaina's unborn baby.

Magickal or not, Abby has to make things right. She ventures into Tír na nÓg to rescue the infant before it’s too late. There's only one problem. Once she’s there, she may never be able to leave.

** I Do Believe in Faeries is a tie-in with How to be a Mermaid and I’d Rather be a Witch. It uses some of the same characters and can be read as a standalone or as a complement to them. **

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I Do Believe in Faeries is a fun read. It's the third books in the Cotton Candy Quintet series, the series is a very loose one and can be easily read out of order. In this book we follow Abby, the sister of Jordan, the main character of book 2. We also meet a few characters of book 1 again, but it's only little touches and scenes. I did like the connection this one had with book 2 as Abby is Jordan her sister. But as most time is spent in another world, the focus is never really on that part, but I still though it was a nice touch.

This was my least favourite book in this series so far and I feel bad about that. I think it's me, not sure if I was in the mood for something different or had different expectations after the last book, but it just didn't fully work for me. I did enjoy it and it was a nice quick read, but I just didn't enjoy it quite as much as the previous books. I do like faerie books, but I felt like the faerie aspect fell a bit flat and there wasn't enough time to fully explain the whole world. Maybe it's the faerie aspect that didn't fully work for me? The next book is about werewolves and I really like shifters, so I have hopes for that one.

With how the set-up is kinda serious, Abby makes a wish and accidentally gifts away someone's baby, the tone of the book seems very light. A bit whimsical and silly and yes there is danger, but it never really felt too dangerous. Also how do you even steal a baby out of someone's belly, how does that even work and how can these faeries even do that? That part seemed a bit weird to me. I would've liked a bit more explanation of how these wishes and magic worked. Maybe I kinda missed the darker tone from book 2, although book was lighter and a good one too.

Abby is a bit of a moody teenager at first and I have to admit I never fully warmed up to her, but I did like how she changed in this book. And that when she realizes she made a mistake she's doing everything she can to make it right and she ends up sacrificing some things for that. I did admire that. I just felt like we never got to fully know Abby and I had hoped to get to know her a bit better, but I still enjoyed following her adventure in the faerie world. I just felt like there could've been a bit more depth to her struggle with fitting in in her family without magic and her feelings about that. It stayed a bit too much on the surface for me. Most of the characters stay a bit flat, but I did like seeing a few of the characters from previous books.

There is a bit of romance, but it's a tad insta love like. Abby even realizes this herself, not sure if that made it more realistic or more obvious or maybe a bit of both. I just didn't quite feel the romance and thought they didn't know each other enough yet to get at the I love you point. I did sorta like how it get resolved. I thought it was a bit weird he was willing to risk so much for her, but how things resolved in the end did surprise me. I never fully felt their connection or why they liked each other, he helped her and that just seemed to be the extent of their connection.

The book is a bit too short to really allow for a lot of in depth world building, so while Abby travels to a whole new world here, It was hard to really get a feel for it. You know how supernatural creatures are done differently in each book and if you're reading a book you're trying to figure out which rules apply here and what not? It was a bit hard to fully do that here, we do get to see a bit of the faerie world, but it was a bit anything goes with some creatures thrown in, the courts, but not enough to fully understand everything, but enough to get a feel for things. they also keep referring to A Midsummer's nightdream, which I haven't read and thus didn't get the reference.

To summarize: This was a fun, light and quick read, but it didn't grab me as much as the two previous books. Abby goes on an adventure to the faerie world to save a baby she accidentally gave up in exchange for getting magic. There's some danger and adventure, but overall the tone of this book is light. I never fully warmed of to Abby and would've liked to get to know her a bit better. There is some interesting character development and I did like how Abby did her best to correct her mistake. The romance didn't quite work for me as I didn't quite feel their connection. I did sort of like how the romance got resolved in the end, although it didn't fully make sense. The world building fell a bit flat for me, the faerie world is a whole new world and I never fully got a feel for the kind of faeries in this book. And I didn't get the references to a Midsummer's night dream. All in all it was a decent read, but did fell a bit flat for me and I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two books.

fairies, witches, and ice queens oh my!

I just finished this and my head it spinning... wow what a roller coaster ride. Once upon a time I thought Erin Hayes absolutely couldn't get any better at writing a book. Ladies and gentleman she has proven me very wrong.

this book has a little bit of everything. although I thought a story about Alaina and her baby would be told from her POV I was
elated to discover it was about Abby and her adventure in fairyland. I love Abby and Jordyn so I was incredibly happy to see them back.

through the struggle, disbelief, adventure, capture, shock, and ultimate loss I followed right along with the emotional roller coaster Abby indured.

if you have not read this yet... what are you waiting for?? you won't regret it.

I can't wait till Christine's story! yay!

17 year old Abby is having a hard time because she comes from a family where all the females are witches, but she has no magic. In a fit of anger and sadness she goes into the woods, and unwittingly wishes for magic inside a faerie ring. She gets her magic, but a sacrifice was made, and not by her. A friends unborn baby is taken by the pixies. With the help of a friend, a trickster by the name of Robin, she has to go to another world to rescue the baby. She will encounter danger, inprisonment, pain, and possibly betrayal to retrieve the baby. Along the way she will find love, and acceptance of herself, flaws and all, and realize she needs to be thankful for what she has.

Action packed novella with a great message

Love. I love these short novella style books Erin's been writing. While they are all great I love that that supernatural entity in each book changes.

In this instalment we are reading about a "witch" and a Faerie. I loved Robin he was funny, but dang I wanted to kill him at times. Abby was so selfless in her quest and gave up everything to fix a wrong.

Abby grated on my nerves. Her character was more like a 13 year old who couldn't get her way. I found her whining, sulking and selfishness to be off putting. As her story began to unfold, her character did improve, but what a hard lesson for her to learn that she could have avoided altogether. I liked Robin and felt bad that he had to endure Abby, though it worked out in the end. A faery was so diverse in this tale that I am still trying to figure out what makes them faery. The kingdoms and rulers were interesting, but I felt like something was missing. I did not like ths book as much as the others in this series. I think I just couldn't connect with Abby, nor could I feel anything for her original dilemma. I was even more put off that her selfishness endangered Alaina's unborn baby. Granted, she didnt know that would happen, but she was warned. Overall this book was 3.5 stars

This whole series is so good. This one started good, got just a little bit boring with all the Tir Na Nog searching, but from the winner court bust out and on it got GOOD! I'm so enjoying this series. Sad that I only have #4 left, #5 not available yet in digital. I usually buy actual print, but I got the first couple free in digital that I wanna keep the whole series that way.

I loved the story and the fairies in here. But I was left wanting more. And not just more at the end - but more throughout the story. I felt like as soon as the world building got really good, we would switch to something else. Honestly, probably because these are novellas. But it was a cute, enjoyable book.

This is book 3 in this series, and no, you don't need to read the other books in the series to enjoy this one, but it does help. Like the other 2 books in this series, this book is a good solid read, and I enjoyed it. A girl getting sucked into a land of fairies makes for a fun story, but beware, as it does have some serious sides to it.

This was a cute novella. I have not read any of the others, but that did not affect my enjoyment. Each seems to be a stand alone.

So I just finished I Do Believe in Faeries and I'm so sad that it ended, I didn't want it to! I just wanted to be forever lost in between the pages.....well, at least until October came when I have to go pick up hubby from coming home from his deployment that is haha.

This is by far my favorite story from Mrs. Hayes and honestly I didn't think anything could top her story, I'd Rather Be a Witch but that is exactly what I Do Believe in Faeries did! This was such a magical tale that it was easy to get sucked into the world, for reality to melt away! I absolutely loved how easy this story flowed, I breezed right through it even though I desperately wanted to savor every single word!

I absolutely loved Abby and her journey, which swept me off my feet! Not once did this story drag and I loved all the different creatures around every corner, I loved the faerie realm Tír na nÓg! This was truly a magical read and I just couldn't get enough of it! Whenever I would have to set it down, it wouldn't leave my mind and I was excited to get back to it as soon as possible! And Robin, sigh, I was grinning ear to ear at the ending! I so desperately want another story with them two, to see how things are going, I'm sad to say goodbye to them!

Overall this is truly a swoon worthy read and not just for the romance, but for the beautifully written world Mrs. Hayes created for us! Truly a fantastic story that I wish I didn't have to leave! Sigh, I'll definitely have a book hangover with this one for sure, I won't know what to do with myself for a while! I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book in this amazing standalone series of hers!

This book is Abby's story, we first met her in I'd Rather Be A Witch which is her sister Jordyn's book  Abby is trying to figure out exactly where she fits in with her family of powerful witches but it seems like she got passed over on the witchy charms. . .

I loved Abby's personality when we met her in the previous book and I wanted to find out more about the oddball in the family of witches. She's got some things to handle (like finding the perfect prom dress and shoes or obsessing over the latest One Direction song and oh yeah! Going to a mystical land to make something right) She has an epic first meeting with Robin Goodfellow A.K.A Puck (sound familiar? Yep, that Puck from A Midsummer Night's Dream! My theatre nerd heart skipped a beat there)  and learns the witches are not the only ones to wield Magick.

Abby has to make a sacrifice for her wish and in typical teenage fashion she pushes aside Puck's warning not to make the wish and after she learns what the sacrifice is she is horrified! (That was a tough section of the book to read! And let's be honest the Pixies kind of creep me out a smidge) but this is the catalyst for quite the adventure! Abby definitely learns a lot about herself while she is trying to rescue an innocent baby with Robin's help. Their banter is pretty hilarious and made me laugh out loud many times.

Even though this story is only novella length Erin packs a whole novel's worth of adventure within these pages. . . I love that about this series, you can't put them down once you start them and they are always full of fantasy and romance and suspense. One of the best magical series out there!

I loveeedddd it!!!

This story is about Abby, Jordyn's sister. She is the only one in her family who isn't a witch and she absolutely hates it. Abby is like any other teenager, worried about the boy who doesn't notice she's alive, prom dresses, her friends, One Direction and Taylor Swift, but she still feels like her nagic is missing and is determined to figure out how to finally get her powers. Jordyn takes Abby with her to meet, her very pregnant friend, Alaina who was also a professional mermaid.

Abby goes goes to Shady point one night, to get away from it all. She finds the tree her and Jordyn used to play around. She begins to wish for magic when Robin Goodfellow, (the one in the same from A Midsummer's Night Dream, and he is swoon worthy) appears out of nowhere, telling her to think twice before making her wish in a faerie ring. Of course, she questions it...but she selfishly wishes for magic anyways. Little does she realize, that magic always comes with a price...even after what her sister just went through! ::rolls eyes:: Abby must now find away to save Alaina's baby!

She ends up going to another realm, known as Tir na nÓg, where there are kings, queens, fairies, giants, goblins, kelpies, pixies and selkies! (A crazy and awesome dream come true, right?!?!) Now, she must travel through the different courts, in hopes of finding the stolen baby.

Can she find the baby and make it out of Tir na nÓg before it's too late? Will her crush finally notice her or is she falling for someone else? I guess you better read it to find out.

Be Careful What You Wish For

This is the first book by Erin Hayes that I have read and I definitely need to read the rest of this series! Growing up in a family full of witches and with no power of her own, Abby constantly feels like an outsider.

Standing inside a faerie ring, she wishes for magick of her own. Wishes granted by faeries come with a sacrifice. Upon her wish being granted, Abby learns the horrific truth of the sacrifice, her friend's baby has been taken!

Robin is a faerie who tried to warn Abby from making her wish. Upon her realization of the horror her wish has created, Abby demands Robin's help in rescuing the baby. This is where the story sucked me in the hardest. Being inside the faerie realm, Abby discovers that Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, had some actual truth inside.

As Abby makes her way through the realm, several mythical creatures are introduced to us. I applaud our author for her depiction of the faeries. Most people believe they are kind and full of love like depicted by Disney. If you read the folklore of your ancestors you will find the exact opposite to be true.

Now to go back and read the rest of the series ~

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Growing up, Abby always felt like the odd one out, being a member of a family full of powerful witches, with no magick of her own. Tired of being normal, she makes a wish and it is granted by faeries. Problem is, with faeries, their is always a price. The price is her friend's unborn child. Abby is determined to make things right and rescue the baby.

This was yet another fantastic story by author Erin Hayes. Unique, fun, and adventuresome. I thoroughly enjoyed this one as I have the others in "The Cotton Candy Quintet" series. I highly recommend this story, and this entire series, to fans of fantasy. Looking forward to reading and review the 4th story soon.

This book is the third in a series of which I had read...NONE..up until now. Clearly I need to rectify this omission! Not that THIS story doesn't stand up entirely on its own. It does! Delightfully! But having had a taste of the wry wit and inventive mind of author Erin Hayes I find my sweet tooth demands more.

Using Shakespeare as reference material makes a great start to a beautifully realized faerie realm; inflicting us with a modern teenager in all her angst and self-absorption--meh (okay, it is UTTERLY what is called for and I'm sure I was nobody's fairy princess at that age either)--but it truly creates a coming-of-age story for today.

I've always love when there is a "quest" type situation in books. This is one of the best I've read so far. Going to somewhere completely unknown and with the dangers and everything else a new land brings to save a child that isn't her own and that no one she knows could even blame her for what happened to the baby is amazing. Plus getting to hang out with an hot guy throughout the whole thing is a really nice added bonus.

So as you can tell I really loved this book lol. It was wonderful and had an awesome story-line that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Abby feels a disappointment and failure because she is the only one in her family who can't do magic. She finds a way to get magic from faeries but there is a price to pay and she just didn't realise that there would be one and what they would take for it.

Pleasant little story cleverly merging Cotton Candy Quintet characters with Shakespeare. Who would have thought it?

Well written as always and an enjoyable read.

Poor Abby doesn't quite fit into the very real world of magick or that of a normal 17 year old girl. As we all remember teenagers are ruled by their emotions. It was a long journey, but a beautiful. Abby matured between the pages, did what was right, and faith was rewarded. Kinda hoping we'll catch up with them in a later book.
