LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that 385 student-athletes from 157 programs have received 2016 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.  

 

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second team and selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American squads.

Three programs saw all eight of their nominated players earn all-region recognition-  No. 2 Michigan (Great Lakes), No. 3 Oklahoma (Central) and No. 4 Oregon (Pacific). No. 1 Florida (Southeast), No. 10 LSU (South), No. 12 Washington (Pacific) and 23 Notre Dame (Mid-Atlantic) charted seven honorees with No. 14 UCLA (West), No. 8 James Madison (Northeast), No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette (Central), No. 19 Minnesota (Great Lakes) and No. 21 Baylor (Central) had six each.

The Wolverines led the way with six first-team selections, while the Sooners, Bruins, Dukes, Fighting Irish, Gators and Ducks earned five apiece.

No. 24 USF topped the Mideast Region with five overall and three first-team nods, while four squads- Nebraska, North Dakota State, Kansas and Ohio State- had four student-athletes honored in the Midwest. The Buckeyes and Huskers topped the region with three first-team selections.

The 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 1, via NFCA.org.
