Lafayette Parish sheriff’s deputies are currently investigating a body that was found in a burning vehicle early this morning.

The worst fears of two Lafayette Parish families were realized Thursday, when detectives with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department identified the two victims found in vehicles that were set on fire early Tuesday morning. They have been identified as 23-year-old Ashley Nichole Metz and 22-year-old Brouklynn Walter Hill, according to Captain John Babin with the sheriff's department.

On Wednesday, Hill's father, Eddie Thomas, said he hadn't been able to make contact with his son since Sunday, when his son called to wish him a happy Father’s Day,

“[I] call him back to back, constantly, it’s going straight to voicemail,” Thomas said. “I didn’t know that my son, Brouklynn, which is my adopted son, he was actually living with Ashley, the woman that passed away.”

Hill was found in the burning car on Denette Road in Carencro. Thomas says his son did not own a car.

Earlier Wednesday, Carla Dean was told by the sheriff’s office that her daughter, Metz, could be the female victim  found on Old Spanish Trail.

Dean said she last spoke to her daughter around 10 p.m. Monday about plans for Tuesday.

“This morning when it was time for me to go, I kept calling her and texting her and she wasn’t answering, which is very unusual for her because she had work this morning,” Dean said.

Metz was on the brink of a promising modeling career, according to her mother.

“I just wish she could come back. I wish I could have her back.”

Babin said deputies were notified of a body found at 1:15 a.m. while Carencro firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire on Dissette Road in Carencro. At 3:30 a.m., Scott firefighters notified LPSO they discovered a body while extinguishing a vehicle fire in the 400 block of Old Spanish Trail around 3:20 a.m.

Detectives are still actively investigating this case. If you have any information that may help identify a suspect, call the Sheriff’s Office at 232-9211.
