You can still help in the flood recovery effort
There are many sites in our area accepting donations of disaster relief supplies. One of the biggest needs, according to sources in contact with the rescuers, is bottled water.
:
Organizers have said the best supplies to donate are:
- Bottled fluids (water, Gatorade)
- Food, ready-to-eat, packaged (cereal bars, Pop Tarts, nuts)
- Food, ready-to-eat, in pop-lid cans (ravioli, Treet, etc.)
- Bleach
- Hand sanitizer
- Cleaning wipes
- Peroxide
- Trash bags
- Work gloves
- Tarps
- Mosquito repellent
- Extension cords
- Flashlights (+ extra batteries)
- Toilet paper
- Feminine products
- Baby supplies
- Personal grooming items
Since there is also often a need for plastic containers for salvaging personal effects, givers sometimes put their supplies inside a 5-gallon plastic bucket or plastic bin which can then be used by survivors to store their belongings. (Some religious organizations helping out call such parcels "blessing buckets.") Some sites accept larger items like fans, dehumidifiers, plywood, and lumber.
