‘Lunch on the Riverfront’ returns downtown this Wednesday

The tranquil Peconic Riverfront.

Remember that chicken salad sandwich you ate at your desk last Wednesday, mixing in sips of a Stop & Shop brand lemon lime seltzer in between bites?

Well the good news is, if you’re a Riverhead resident, that doesn’t have to be your normal routine anymore. The Riverhead Town Recreation Department is hosting “Lunch on the Riverfront” this Wednesday with food, music and art on the Peconic.

“We first ran these events back in 2010,”said Danielle Doll, the recreation department’s cultural affairs supervisor. “When I originally thought of the idea, I was looking for a unique, creative way to draw people to the riverfront. I wanted people to have a relaxing and inspiring place to eat their lunch and the Peconic River offers just that.”

The event will run monthly throughout the summer. The first will be held this Wednesday, June 29, from noon to 2 p.m. For this month, the lunch options include lamb gyro, a grilled chicken sandwich or a falafel sandwich. Live music will be provided by Sunnyland Jazz Band and there will be an “Old Riverhead” photography exhibit from the Suffolk County Historical Society.

“Good food, good music, good art and a beautiful setting: it’s the perfect combination,” Ms. Doll said.

Reservations are required and must be made through the department’s website. You must complete the form and return it in person to their office at 55 Columbus Avenue along with proof of residency. Once you have an account you can register for any program you wish.
