Donald Trump needs to distract from the most terrible few weeks of his presidency to date. With his personal attorney talking more and more to the press and federal investigators, his former campaign manager about to go to prison, his performance in Russia sapping the support of his base, and indications that a blue wave is coming in the November mid-terms, Trump needs to divert attention badly.
Enter the tweets about anything other than those subjects.
While it seems that Trump likes looking like a bully to the world leaders of other countries, which boosts his image and his “brand,” he apparently doesn’t like talking to or listening to the farmers and business owners he claims to be concerned about. Tariffs are affecting businesses all over the country and forcing them to move jobs overseas, something Trump said he’d make policies to curb.
The impact on farmers has been devastating and is only predicted to get worse.
‘The ramifications may reach into some suburban communities, as experts predict farmers forced to continue selling at a loss will cut spending in other areas, such as farm machinery, storage bins, pickup trucks and chemicals.
‘”There’s a lot of people who will not make it through this,” said Frieders, the treasurer of the DuPage County Farm Bureau.’
It seems that while Trump thinks “tariffs are great!” they aren’t all that great to the people in this country that are deeply affected by them. Trump doesn’t seem to understand basic economic, and his announced meeting with world leaders to discuss tariffs may not even be happening. Considering the endless lies from this president, it’s hard to tell.
