Stevenage II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 42 Runs

Match report Town travelled to Stevenage looking to keep the pressure on in the promotion battle. Losing the toss, Stevenage elected to bat first.

An excellent opening spell from Chandana Silva and Sajid Malik put Town in a dominant position early on. Sajid in particular creating a chance every over, some taken, some not. Stevenage just couldnt get used to the swing and nicked off twice with two very smart catches in the slips from Mikhil Patel. Chand also picked up a wicket in his opening spell with the help of a sublime, one handed catch that 'just stuck' from Fozan. In the middle overs, Stevenage started to recover and had an excellent partnership between Haynes and Thompson with the spinners struggling to get the breakthrough until Mikhil Patel floated one up which Haynes hit straight up into the hands of Loomba at long on. Town continued to toil to try and restrict Stevenage and despite some late hitting from Kinney, Town bowled out Stevenage for 246 - a score much higher than they would have liked given the start.

In response, Loomba was triggered early after one of the most horrific LBW decisions in recent years. The ball may have clipped another set of stumps down leg - quite frankly embarrassing to even appeal for it. In came Fozan who has been given his chance after some excellent form in the 2s and he didnt disappoint, smashing the bad ball and respecting the good ball to build what looked to be a match winning innings alongside the in form Andy Burt whos consistency this year has been amazing to watch as he notched up yet another 50. Town looking like cruising home was stunned as they lost Burt and soon followed by Haji as he was run out. With victory less than 80 runs away, the lower middle order and tail just couldnt build partnerships with only Kotecha showing real fight down the order until he chipped one to mid off.

Loomba spoke after the game: 'Really disappointing loss. This one hurt more than any of the others as we were in a real position to get promoted and with Leverstock also losing it was a huge opportunity missed. It is always difficult when key players arent available to sustain a real promotion push but cant fault the effort from the guys on the day. Some fantastic bowling from Saj and excellent batting from Fozan and Burty is encouraging going into next week.'
