Could Koeman be set for a third Premier League club in Swansea, after spells at Everton and Southampton?
Swansea City are interested in talking to former Everton and Southampton manager about succeeding Paul Clement at the Liberty Stadium, Sky Sports reported on Thursday [live blog entry 09:31].
With the January transfer window fast approaching, any new Swansea boss is likely to have one eye on improving the squad they’ve inherited from Clement.
But who could Koeman target? Here are three potential candidates…
Daryl Janmaat (Watford)
Swansea have been linked with a move for Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom, but Koeman may want his own man. He managed Janmaat at Feyenoord, and could look to take advantage of his present situation (six league appearances all season).
Shane Long (Southampton)
Swansea have struggled for goals since the sale of Fernando Llorente to Tottenham, just as Long is struggled for games at Southampton (he’s not appeared in any of their last four fixtures). The Irishman was signed by Koeman during his time at St Mary’s, and scored 13 goals in all competitions in the Dutchman’s final season.
Davy Klaassen (Everton)
Signed by Koeman for Everton earlier this year, Klaassen has not played a single minute in the league since his compatriot’s sacking in late October. It would come as little surprise to see the £23.6 million man* moved on in January, and a loan deal could suit Swansea – who sold their main source of creativity (Gyfi Sigurdsson) to Everton in August – with their Premier League status at risk.
