| Hello all, Mary Weeks, Linda Desai, Richard Warren and myself met with CCC Director Bruce Saito, Regional Director Jose Phillips and Conservationist Supervisor Carrie Monroe this morning.
The meeting was very positive, although no commitments were made we're are moving in the right direction. We discussed the concerns of the CCC, which revolve around access, safety and utilities during construction, and believe we provided adequate answers and alternatives.
|
| |
|
|
| The next step is for the CC project folks to discuss how to incorporate our presence during construction into the bid package and for PNC to provide some follow up details on their concerns. The board will be discussing the situation at Monday's meeting. In the meantime continued community support would be helpful in the form of letters to the director, please see suggested wording and e-mail address below.
bruce.saito@ccc.ca.gov
Sample Letter-- Dear Director Saito, I am writing to you to express my support for the Placer Nature Center (PNC) and their long term home at the California Conservation Corp’s Placer Center (CCC) in Auburn Ca. I/We have been supporters of PNC for many years and have always appreciated the partnership between PNC and CCC. As I’m sure you are aware there are limited opportunities in our community for outdoor education especially for children and having an organization like PNC in our backyard is invaluable. In today’s world of ever decreasing resources it is important for government departments to work with community based organizations and promote public/private partnerships, as is the current situation with PNC and the CCC. It would be a major loss to this community if PNC is forced to move and such a move could in fact endanger the future of the organization. I/We value the work of the CCC and their dedication to helping young men and women and conserving our precious natural resources and your past support for PNC and our community, both working together towards a better tomorrow. I/We along with the over 160,000 community members served by PNC over the past 27 years strongly urge you to find a workable solution that benefits all parties and continues to support outdoor and environmental education for our children, families and community. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

| Coats 4 Tahoe—Jeanne and I took 21 large trash bags filled with coats, jackets, heavy sweaters and a child’s snowsuit to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Tahoe City. They were truly appreciative of the FLC effort. Together with local Tahoe Episcopal and Presbyterian congregations, winter clothing will be available at the Community Center in Kings Beach on Dec 15 for the public. In addition, the congregations also provide bags of other items such as warm socks and personal items. This year, in addition to FLC donations, we have also received large bags of clothing from Alta-Dutch Flat Elementary (unclaimed ’17/’18 lost and found jackets, etc.), members of Auburn Racquet Club, and the Colfax Community Gift and Thrift store. | ROCKY BOY’S RESERVATION SERVANT GROUP OPPORTUNITY
If you have ever had the desire to be part of a mission/servant group now is your chance! Members from our church will be traveling to Montana mid-June for a one week stay at Rocky Boy’s Reservation in Box Elder, Montana. This facility is affiliated with Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Their pastor Linda Webster, is also a personal friend of our own Pastor Charlane!
Nancy Bender will be providing specific information to those of you interested in making a difference and developing new relationships with fellow Christians. Our group can assist with major construction projects, landscaping, gardening and painting. There will also be time spent with Bible study, cultural learning, speakers and demonstrators. We even may be able to sleep in teepees if interested.
The cost per person is $360 which will cover food, lodging and program costs. We plan to travel by train which will be approximately $450 round trip. We are hoping to keep total costs to no more than $850/per person. As a group we can also plan fundraisers so as to enable as many people as possible to share in the experience.
This trip is geared toward multi-generational congregants interested in participating in this life-changing opportunity.

| Consecration Sunday Results for 2019 Year
Based upon Tony’s observation on Sunday, the worship sermon provided by Pastor Mark Vance was an inspiration and entertaining for all. And for those that did not attend, it has been recorded and is available on the website under “News”. Thanks to all who attended and those who did not but were present in spirit. Again this year, without question it was a success, spiritually and economically. The economic results are as follows:
- 37 families (husbands and wives or single persons) completed the Estimate of Giving Cards
- 32 of these INCREASED their financial commitment
- For those that filled out the Estimate of Giving Cards, a total of $132,576 was committed
- For those that did not attend, but based upon previous giving records, we expect to receive an additional $94,956
- Loose offerings amount to an additional $3,100 based upon previous averages
- Income from non-donor sources amount to $12,800 ($10.800 from the rental and $2,000 other)
- Total Estimated Income for 2019 is $243,432 which represents a 5.4% increase from 2018
The spiritual results: We are all GRATEFUL for what we have received.
Thanks from your stewardship committee: Tony Freitas, Dave Jones, Gail Parn, Pastor Lines

| Growing Places Small Group Opportunities - Have you heard about the amazing experiences of people who joined FLC small groups this Fall? Would you like to have your chance to deepen relationships and grow spiritually? Plan to join us in January for a new set of small group meetings! We are currently planning our Winter schedule that will start the week of January 28. Groups will each meet 6 times, finishing up before Easter. Look for more information soon! Some words about Growing Places from Mark Achen: “The seven weeks of small groups were so amazing. Getting to know the others in my group really helped me to not only share some of my thoughts but listening to others as they opened up with their thoughts really taught me how to listen and appreciate our differences and learning more about others that is not always possible in large groups. I challenge you if you didn’t sign up this first time, think about stepping out of your comfort zone and joining in January. This was such a fulfilling and learning experience for me and I pray that you can be a part of that with us in January.” | |
