STRICTLY winner Joe McFadden has admitted he’d kill to be the next Taggart.
The former Holby City star revealed he wants the role amid rumours of a comeback for the gritty telly detective.
McFadden, 42, insisted he would play it his own way and ditch the grizzly cop routine made famous by Mark McManus in the 80s.
And he joked there could be a role for his Strictly partner Katya Jones.

He told TV’s Ewen Cameron: “There are rumours of a remake of Taggart.
"I’d love to play him — I’d do it in a heartbeat. They’re bringing back all those shows from the 80s and it would totally work.
“But you’d have to go different. You couldn’t go gruff. Mark McManus was amazing but you’d have to shake it up.
"If it comes back I’m interested. Should we start a campaign?”
And he said of Katya, who helped him to win the last series of Strictly: “We could have a glam Russian dancer killer in the first episode.”
McFadden made his first TV appearance on Taggart aged 12 when he appeared as a schoolboy in 1988 episode ‘The Root of Evil’.
He is back in home city Glasgow as the Strictly tour hits the SSE Hydro.
And he thrilled fans at the Polo Lounge club by turning up with show judge Craig Revel Horwood on Friday.
Twitter user Pauline McComish posted a snap with the pair and wrote: “So nice to see them having a relaxing time.”
