Political crisis escalated as suspected hoodlums invaded the house of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Kano, Abba Kabiru Yusuf and set it ablaze.

The building recently converted into a political office located around Chiranchi quarters in Gwale Local Government area of Kano State was reportedly burnt with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

The hoodlums who said to have taken the advantage of PDP presidential activities on Sunday to perpetrate the act were still at large.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Kano, Sanusi Bature has accused the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) of sponsoring the dastardly act.

Sanusi in a statement alleged that the hoodlums numbering over sixty were led by one Juinaidu Abdulhamid, who is a Personal Assistant to the State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, to carry out the burning of the house.

According to Sanusi, ” the thugs set the house ablaze and razed it down to ashes and vandalized a Volkswagen Golf – III model with registration number NSR 237 AE. The same thugs were those who attacked the Kwankwasiyya leaders and their supporters during an annual Eid durbar of Hawan Daushe at the Kofar Kudu of the Emir’s Palace, Kano.

“The same APC thugs went on a rampage destroying all PDP formations in the State anytime they are out for political rallies despite the fact that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje appended his signature on the 2019 election peace accord.”

He called on the Police and other security agencies to as a matter of urgency to discharge their responsibility with utmost fairness and objectivity in ensuring that the culprits who burnt down the PDP gubernatorial candidate’s property are brought to book.

In a counter-reaction, Kano state government has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of attacking the resident of Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Prince Abdullahi Abbas and injuring one of his sons during her presidential campaign rally on Sunday.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba said the suspected PDP thugs also dismantled all APC campaign posters within the city at the wee hours of Saturday.

In the statement, ” Apparently disturbed by the dislodgement of their leader, Rabi’uKwankwaso in Kano’s political scene, the group has begun to lose hope in the upcoming 2019 general elections, and therefore, adopted the manner of violence to vent its anger over the perceptible success of the APC at all level”.

The new Commissioner of Police in Kano, Mohammad Wakili yesterday confirmed the arrest of 28 political thugs in connection with destruction of public property during PDP presidential campaign in Kano.

Wakili revealed that those arrested were found with dangerous weapons to vandalize and frustrate public peace during the PDP presidential campaign rally. He said the  will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
