Hyperkin is targeting a late summer 2018 release with a price tag is that below $100 USD. While it doesn't include any bulit-in games, it will work with all classic Game Boy carts, and may potentially play Game Boy Color games as well.
With Nintendo revisiting its older hardware with the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition, there's been speculation the company could be working on something similar for Game Boy. While Nintendo has yet to announce anything along the lines of a Game Boy Classic Edition, the company does intend to release more NES and SNES Classic Edition consoles in 2018 for those who haven't been able to track one down yet, thanks to limited supply and incredibly high demand.
