State approves funds for water system improvements for the city of Eldorado.

The city of Eldorado was approved for a significant water system improvement project Thursday.

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) in Austin approved financial assistance of $1.2 million to the city. The funds are part of the state’s loan program, Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

The assistance will save the city about $169,000 over the life of the loan, according to a TWDB statement.

Eldorado will use the assistance to finance the planning, design and construction of a 100,000-gallon elevated storage tank, more than 3,200 linear feet of pipeline and a software system.

The software system — a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system — will allow the city monitor and control its wells, pumps and storage tanks.

The project will improve circulation and service pressure for customers.

The mission of TWDB is to provide information, financial assistance and support the conservation and responsible development of water for Texas.
