First hole-in-one of 2019!

We had our first hole-in-one in 2019! Louise Wachters had the honours of doing that on the 5th of January 2019 on the 7th hole. Our fellow member Ryan Hermanson also donated $ 100 to the first hole-in-one winner like he did last year.

Below Louise receives the money and certificate. Congratulations, may there be many more!

International Day

Our last event for 2018 was a huge success!  A big thanks to Kevin vd Spuy for organising this fantastic day. I think the pictures say it all...Congrats to our best dressed couple Jane & Derrick Wagenfeld!

Robbie Burns Evening

We only have 10 spots left for this wonderful evening.  Please give else a call to avoid disappointment. Thanks for your support.

Internet

We have been having some problems with the internet from Telkom's side. We have had a meeting with Nashua and Clubmaster to sort out the problem and we are going to go the fibre route which will hopefully be installed by month-end.

May we then have no down time!

Subscription fees

Firstly, thanks to all the members that have already paid their fees and subscriptions, much appreciated.

A friendly reminder that fees have to be paid by end of January unless you have made arrangements to pay off outstanding amounts.

Members must please notify Else before end of the month whether:

1. We organise monthly debit order for them.
2. They do their own debit order.
3. Any other arrangements.

All of the above must be confirmed by e-mail or written agreement.

Course update

As you all have seen, some of our greens have taken strain over the last week. This is due to very strong winds, high temperature and an air lock in our irrigation system.

The irrigation system has been rectified and we are hand-watering the greens during the very hot days. The water from Macassar has been connected again and they've installed a new meter. We purchased a new mini hollowtining machine that is able to tine the greens on a weekly basis ensuring that they stay healthy.  The 8th green has been hollowtined and you can already see an improvement. We will also be reinstalling a faulty communications wire for the irrigation in front of the 7th green.

Our new trees at the 12th are being watered and they are healthy. Tree-planting will start mid February. We have a master plan for our pathways on the new course and will continue with the same paths as we did at the underpass. Some areas have been prioritised and we will display our plan of action on the noticeboard.

Who will be our 2019 Club Champ?

Our Club Champs will be on the 16 and 17 March. Please diarise - it would be wonderful if we have a full field for this event.

Did you know that Gerald Williams won 12 Club Champs from 1973 -1993? That is the most won in our history at the club!

The two brothers Roy [8] and Trevor [5] Joubert won 13 Club Champs in the 14 years from 1959 -1972.

Who's been winning at the club?

Revealing the lie

It does impact accuracy

Test after test conducted by golf magazines, club fitters, and even those trying to “bust” myths, substantiates the fact that you’ll hit more accurate approach shots if your lie angle is a perfect match to your golf swing.

Irons toe down
Strike the ball with the toe slightly down and
your ball will go right of the target (right-handers).
Iron heel down
Strike the ball with heel down and your ball
will travel left of the target (right-handers).

The mechanics of this are obvious really. Make contact with the turf with the toe of the club and the club face will open. Make contact with the heel and the face closes. It’s how imperceptible it feels to most of us, and how large the impact is, that surprises everyone.

Are your clubs telling a lie?

Do you think you’ve hit a solid shot but missed on one side? Is it your setup; your swing path and face angle; or your lie angle? You’d be blown away to discover how many golfers play with a lie angle that makes the game harder. Make it easier to hit better golf shots.

An improvement changing your game

If you want to go from experiencing an average golf game to a better golf game, where you take more frustration-free walks down fairways and then step with an excited bounce towards a green full of opportunity after a sweet approach shot:

Then often a small change, from steering the golf ball to releasing
the clubhead through the golf ball, results in:

What would cause you to smile more often on the golf course? What would give you cause for celebration?
If “greater consistency” of ball striking will help deliver a smile or celebration,
