Today, Arts Council England announces the successful applicants for the Catalyst Small Grants programme, funded by the National Lottery, which will support organisations to build fundraising capacity to attract more private giving to arts and culture.

117 successful applicants from across England will be awarded between £10,000 and £30,000 to help drive investment into arts and cultural organisations as a key part of one of Arts Council England’s goals which is to help create a more sustainable and resilient arts and culture sector.

This fund is one of the measures we put in place to support that aim, which represents Goal 3 of our mission to achieve great art and culture for everyone.

The £2,869,493 fund will support small to medium sized organisations to invest in systems, or training and development for staff, volunteers and boards, or to cover the costs of external expertise to increase their fundraising.

Francis Runacres, Executive Director, Enterprise and Innovation, Arts Council England, said: ‘Arts and culture in this country thrives on a mixed funding model of earned income, private giving and public investment. Although private giving will never replace public-funding, it is an important source of funding for arts and cultural organisations, and we are thrilled to be able to fund over one hundred organisations to build and strengthen their fundraising capacity.’

Clare Titley, Director of Philanthropy, Arts Council England, said: “I am delighted that we are able to fund so many arts and cultural organisations, the length and breadth of England, to support them in becoming more resilient. The sorts of projects that our Catalyst Small Grants programme is supporting range from recruiting fundraising consultants and funding new websites to allow for increased online giving to fundraising training for trustees and staff.”

A list of successful applicants and the awards they have received is available here.

Arts Council England champions, develops and invests in artistic and cultural experiences that enrich people’s lives. We support a range of activities across the arts, museums and libraries – from theatre to digital art, reading to dance, music to literature, and crafts to collections. Great art and culture inspires us, brings us together and teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. In short, it makes life better. Between 2015 and 2018, we plan to invest £1.1 billion of public money from government and an estimated £700 million from the National Lottery to help create these experiences for as many people as possible across the country. www.artscouncil.org.uk
