Israel is headed for the moon!

Barring any issues,the SpaceIL Israeli spacecraft named Beresheet is scheduled to launch early Friday morning 3:45 AM IST.

If the launch is successful, Beresheet is due to arrive on the near side of the moon in April following a two-month journey through 4 million miles and will make Israel the fourth country to land on the moon (The predecessors where the United States, Russia and China).

This is the first ever privately funded mission to the moon, with the smallest spacecraft to ever attempt a lunar mission. The preparations have taken 8 years, involved 250 people and cost 100 million dollars.

Beresheet will launch from Cape Canaveral Kennedy Space Center in Florida, taking a ride with the SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket for the first part of its journey.

If successful, Beresheet will end up as the prototype for a series of future moon landing missions jointly planned by IAI and Germany's OHB System on behalf of the European Space Agency.
