Sweetened Suffering

Tavin

The problem with getting what you’ve always wanted, is the chance of losing it. Before I met Alexander, I was blissfully blind, unaware of what was possible. Now that I’ve seen the colors of his world, I don’t know how to go back to the dreariness of mine. As much as I want to allow myself to dream of a life that I never knew was possible, the doubts still dig their claws into my mind and I fear the darkness of my past will destroy it all.

Alexander

Not my wildest dreams or my darkest nightmares could have prepared me for the intricacy that is Tavin Winters. As sweet and gentle as she is, the violence and torment that have been woven into every day of her past remains evident. He will pay for what he’s done to her, and I will do my best to give her the serenity she deserves. However this plays out, I will always love her and I will always protect her…even if it's from herself.

Trigger Warning: This novel contains drug use, explicit sexual content, violence, child abuse, and sensitive subject matter which may be triggering to some readers.

Dnf halfway in. Hero ends up sleeping with someone else and calls the heroine a whore and other stuff after he caught the heroine dancing with her best friend that he was jealous of. He sleeps with heroine 2 days after, the OW is a bit of a psycho and calls Heroine trash and tells her to leave, hero doesn't really apologize to the heroine for it but apologizes to the OW, with the explanation that the Heroine is his "ex" even though I was very much under the impression they were back together. Heroine is also annoying. She refuses to tell the hero anything even though she told the sister, so he had to find out about her past himself. Heroine also becomes a stripper, and has sexual relations with another stripper. She also is non stop doing even more drugs in this one, not that i expect her to change super fast, but she went from being fine with weed and valium last books to doing everything else again in this. This book made me dislike everyone more instead of feeling sympathy or feeling sad for anyone which I think the story meant to make the reader do. So, not a good book.

I thought it was impossible for me to love the second book more than the first. But I think I did ! I mean it was darker, a lot darker. And goddamn sometimes it was so funny. The author is amazing. I can't wait to read the last book.

What a brilliant follow up
Charity writes with exquisite detail about many dark themes.
Her courage to challenge themes that the heirarchy normally don’t allow us to talk about is commendable.
Alexander and Tavin lead us into a world that is so believable.
A great tale woven with thought and research.
Great complications.
If you like reality and dark themes this is a tale for you.
Erotic.
Dark
Enthralling despite the darkness
The themes will make you feel for all the characters involved.
The saddest thing is the reality of what the rich and powerful actually can do when they abuse that power.
Charity shines with every passing chapter.

***Review of ARC which was provided free from the author in exchange for my honest review***

Gawd this series! These books just get better and better and better!!!!

This installment begins where the last one ended with Tavin reluctantly moving in with Sasha and Drew. I was immediately sucked back into the story, captivated by the eloquent writing of this addictive tale! I loved the introduction of new characters including Timmothy, Master (I thought Logan was Master but wow, he’s not) and a kinky character named Alia! The abuse Toben and Tavin endured as children no longer needs to be imagined as we get all the graphic, disturbing details. These dark scenes were incredibly well written and even evoked some emotion in me (which rarely happens). Speaking of emotions, I even chuckled out loud… I had never heard the term, “manstruating” before! It still shocks me that this series is Ms. B’s first writing endeavor!!!

My only complaint about this book was that on the 2 nights Alexander decides to hit the town with a female after breaking up with Tavin, she just happens to be in the exact same place he is - both times! After reading CANDY COATED CHAOS, I know what Charity B. is capable of so these, “coincidences” were disappointing. There was also some unnecessary repetition (for example, when we see Alex and Tavin’s makeup scene twice, first through Alexander’s eyes then again through Tavin’s later). Other than this very minute details, this book is beyond perfect!!!! Literally could not put it down and stayed up late reading until 3 AM to finish it! SWEETENED SUFFERING literally has EVERYTHING a dark romance lover looks for (yet on steroids)! Abuse, suspense, torture, bribes, drugs, rape, child abuse, hot sex, endearing love, crippling grief, crime and even a mid evil torture device! Honestly, I could go on and on! Just when I thought there couldn’t be any more twists or surprises, another one hit me! If you like your books exceedingly dark and depraved, you will absolutely 🖤LOVE🖤 this book!

I don’t know were to star to write the review. I don’t want to spoiled the book for any one. Is just to good, you have to read it to feel it.

This book had all the emotions for me.

But most of all my heart was broken with Tavin and Toven history.
This explains so much. And the feelings were so real that had me in tears.

Thank God for Alexander and his love for her.

You just have to read this book, there is no words to explain the feelings that this book left you

Holy smokes!! I'm in love with Charity Bailey. Last week I finally got around to reading Candy Coated chaos and loved that but Sweetened Suffering was outstanding!! This book is NOT a standalone, it's the 2nd installment of the Sweet Treats series.
This book contains triggers and is not suitable for all.
It contains Rape, drugs, violence, abuse and well you get the drift.
The raw emotion that flows through this book will shatter your soul. I laughed, I cried and I cursed ALOT!!
The book picks up right where the last book left us, with Tavin moving in with Sasha.
New characters are introduced which was great to see. We also get to live the anguish and torment that both Tavin and Tobin went through.
The plot twists gave me whiplash. I didn't see them coming.
This book not only broke, but also pleased my black little heart.
I can't wait for Cupcakes and Crooked Spoons

Make sure you read Candy Coated Chaos first as this is a continuation of the story and your definitely not gonna wanna miss out on book one.

This book is darker than the first with many trigger warnings so be warned. The author wrote about these characters in a beautiful yet heartbreaking way. I really felt for the characters and went through so many emotions while reading it.

Talk about a book hangover. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. If you loved book one your gonna certainly love this book.

This is the second book in the series. If you haven't read the first book of this series, then don't read this one until you do. You will have no clue as to what is going on and it will only frustrate you. Once you've read that one, come back for this one.

We pick up right where CCC left off. Sasha is driving Tavin away from Alex's house. He's so angry at her, and Tavin is broken up about it. He just doesn't understand what's going on and what just happened. He thinks that she purposely did what he thought she did, but the fact is that she had no choice. She's devasted, but at least Sasha, who knows most of what's going on, is there to help her.

Alex, on the other hand, really has no one to help him. All his friends are telling him good riddance to bad rubbish. He's just lost and floundering and knows that all he wants is Tavin. When he learns more about her story, his viewpoint is completely changed.

While it may look like this story is about a whole lot of things, what it breaks down to, at least for me, is what love is. The question is can someone love someone else no matter what horrible things they've done in their lives or been forced to do? Can that someone actually believe that they are loved and that they deserved to be loved? No matter what's going on, that's what Sweetened Suffering is to me, one person loving another unconditionally and fighting to deal with horrible things that have happened to the person that they loved. Alex sometimes gets really angry at what happened, which does sometimes scare Tavin, but he's rarely angry at her, more like angry for her. Totally different thing. Even through some extreme tests, he doesn't change and he tells her that he will always love her.

Charity has followed up CCC, which was an amazing debut, with a book that holds its own against that first book. That can be hard to do, especially with as strong a showing her first book had. But, she manages it quite well.

Sweetened Suffering is the second book in the trilogy by debut author Charity B. You do need to read Candy Coated Chaos first. I was eagerly looking forward to reading this as the previous book which I really enjoyed ended on a cliffhanger. Once again I was soon caught up in the captivating and tangled story of Tavin, Alexander, Toben, Logan and Sasha. I read it in one sitting as I really wanted to know what happened next. The character of Tavin is complex, damaged and I admire how the author weaves in the contradictory mix of abuse mixed in with pleasure which is is quite challenging to say the least. Alexander continues to be captivated by this crazy butterfly and her chaotic lifestyle and strange tangled relationships. I did lose some empathy towards Toben as the story unfolded but it was good to make the reader challenge beliefs and set them adrift. There were some fabulous lines in the book such as, ‘His voice is like hot chocolate in the winter. He’s the light in the dark room of monsters’. It’s an even darker read than the first book and is full of potential triggers so heed the warnings. I did have a few issues along the way which is why I’ve dropped a star but I still really enjoyed it and it lived up to my expectations which is not always the case with sequels. I’m also very much looking forward to the last book in this series

Ok so where were we with the story of Tavin and Lex? We determined that Tavin is not sugar and spice, and all that's nice but good grief this girl really tries hard. Sweetened Suffering by Charity B. is book two in the Sweet Treats series and this author really knows how to make her characters suffer. It's dark and gritty but it also has some really sweet moments that you need to hold on to with everything that you are to get you through each chapter as you never know where this author might take you next. As you learn more about Tavin and Toben's history, the more your heart will break.

Tavin's life "isn't black and white. It isn't even gray. It's every color of the rainbow." The way she describes some of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Logan just rolls of her tongue like she is telling someone the weather forecast. For all the innocence that Tavin has lost, there remains an innocence that is so profoundly heartbreaking.

Charity B. can write. This woman is amazingly talented. You just need to remember that your trip to the candy store is not going to be all sweet. You are going to read things that will have your face puckering and you will be tempted to spit it out. Be brave, keep going because Sweetened Suffering has so much to offer you. The end of this book was one of the BEST endings I have ever read. I power read. I couldn't get enough of this story and to think there is one more book to go.

This series to give you a heads up, even though the cover and the series title makes you think that it is candy-coated sweetness which is similar to the title of the first book it is anything but. This series is edgy, darker than dark and gritty. In the second book, Tavin has left Lex and living with Sasha as she is trying to protect him from Logan. We learn that Logan is Logan James and is a billionaire and we delve back into the beginning of how Tavin and Toben became Logan's property to do with whatever he wanted. This reminded me of K.Webster's dark fiction books as this may trigger heavy emotions from readers as Tavin was sold into child prostitution, drugged and put in a cage and then branded with what she calls her "logo." Can Lex and Sasha help Tavin become free once and for all? Or will getting her free cause them to have to sacrifice things in their own lives, e.g., Sasha and her fiance Drew? This series shows readers the length that true love will go to save the ones you love from danger and ever being hurt. I am now looking forward to reading Book #3 in the series and OMFG the ending of this book and naughty Toben - this part made me mad. If you are in the mood for some darkness in your reading life, then Charity B.'s Sweet Treats is the series for you.

🍭🍭Suffering has never been this Sweet 🍭🍭
This was everything I never knew I wanted in a closing love story!
The exposure and brutality of Tavins past blended with the endless possibilities of her future were brought together in an absolutely sensuous and heartbreaking tale filled with angst - sacrifice- jealousy- and love
I honestly am looking forward to a hopeful spin-off series of some of the secondary characters - you have to read it yourself 😉 but we get to meet some really fun and unique characters in the second book, as well as uncover some entertaining little secrets about the ones we thought we already knew - yeah there are some fun OH hell not!! moments
Again everything I look for in a strong dark romance with a flawless execution
Before I go - I must apologize
I had trouble with Alex in book one - I was kind of on the fence about how he responded to certain events and I wasn't sure if I really could forgive him- after closing the final pages on this chapter of their lives - I am on my knees begging his forgiveness - I was wrong - so so wrong you do have a heart 😉

Bittersweet.

Beware of triggers! A really good series, possibly one of the darkest books I’ve read. I wanted to shake Tavin sometimes. I enjoyed it so much, you can tell a really good book, when you risk being on your phone in work just to read another chapter!

It’s an exceptional story
This is the second book in Charity’s sweet treats trilogy. What an exquisitely weaved story. It twists back and forth through Alexander’s, Tavin’s, and Toben’s lives. The story flows well from scene to scene. This story is so emotional! We meet Tavin and Alexander again, the main characters introduced in Candy Coated Chaos. Tavin, Lille, is an amazing character. She is a contradiction of innocence and corruption and naiveté and experience. Alexander, Lex, is such a strong alpha male. He is Tavin’s rock but even a rock can be shaken loose and fall. This is a story of strength, finding one’s self, and the power of love! This story delves more into Tavin and Toben’s past and it’s dark, twisted, powerful, and poignant. This story will make you cry, scream, throw your kindle, and fall in love all over again. There is an HEA. Its just getting to it will not be a skip in the park! Please do read the warnings in the synopsis. This is a very dark erotic romance. I cant wait to read the next book! I recommend this series!

this story continues directly after the end of Candy Chaos and you can't read this one without reading that so if you haven't stop here.

We were left with the aftermath of finally seeing the villain Logan of our story and seeing how deeply rooted Toben and Tavin are with him and his business.. Our hero Alex is bitter angry and wants to hate Tavin for the secrets that are and are not revealed here. Tavin runs from everything finding comfort and friendship in Sasha Alex's sister. We see Tavin and Alex struggling with all the revelations that come into light in this installment. We finally find out what all the secrets and we see the horrors Tavin has gone through in her lifetime, that broke my heart for the things she just excepted over time and we truly see in technicolor the reasons why Tavin does and is how she is. But fear not, Alex and Tavin are not separated for long and soon enough we see the true strength and love of these two. With help from all the people they both hold dear they begin to slowly heal and work through everything that fights against them. Will they win? Will they finally get their happily ever after?

I give this story 4.5 stars I truly enjoyed the conclusion to the story of Tavin and Alex. I loved the side characters, I feel and wish I could maybe see more from Cain and Nikki I'm interested greatly in that. I felt the sorrow and love these two held for each other. Alex he's so sweet and never looked at Tavin differently even after all the revelations we got about her past. Tavin she's the strongest character I've probably read to date this girl had nothing honestly to fight for or any reason to survive but she still blossomed and kept her good heart and spirit through everything. Lastly the Lotus flower, this hits me deeply since the meaning of resilience, rebirth and strength is the meaning of this flower I have a love hate relationship with this symbol because it was forced on her as a sign of ownership and dominance. But the flower itself grows in the deepest darkest conditions out of the mud and flourishes into this beautiful vibrant bloom, and I myself have a watercolor lotus tattooed on my side for blossoming myself from dark circumstances and a hard past. I am not fool enough to believe my past holds a candle to the tragedy's of Tavins past but I can relate alot to her so this makes this story and couple all the more special to me. I guarantee that I will never forget the incredible story of Tavin and Alex.

And bravo Charity for writing this deeply intense and beautiful story especially since it's your debut. Look out book world I think we have stumbled upon a lotus as a author truly blooming.

Amazing follow-up to Candy Coated Chaos. Be sure to read that first.

This book is dark and beautiful. You will laugh and cry and want to punch people/things.

Charity B. does amazing at developing these characters and I felt deeply invested in them and their happiness and well-being.

The intimate scenes are so hot and well written. You will definitely want more.

Must read.

Cliff Hanger

I have so many questions I hope the last book I'll answer some. How did Tavin mom die, the questions that came up about when Logan started his Lotus company and how it Corolates to the year when Tavin was born. The 2nd book in this series is just as captivating as the first and more so in its intensity. My heart was beating so rapidly I thought it would burst from my chest in anticipation and dread to the next page. The author is absolutely gifted knowing when to give her readers the highs and when to real them back in. It takes an exceptional author to give their readers the feeling of being a part of the story to endure, anticipate and celebrate along with the characters. I tried numerous times to stop reading this series but I had to push through the end because this shit really happens in life. It's very difficult to read about this form of abuse against children for them to live through that experience is unbearable to think about. There's a special place in Hell for people like Logan and Kyle and also those parents who sold their children to these monsters. I hope they burn slowly feeling every bit if pain they inflicted on these kids nd even adults who's suffered this form of abuse. Charity B congratulations to for bringing light to a subject that's so taboo no one wants to talk about or hear about it also to Amazon for not banning it. As painful as it is to read we need to bring awareness to sex trafficking and child slavery. This book is without a doubt a 10+

Are you ready for this? Was I ready for this? The answer is NO. But yet, here I am wanting to read it all over again. There is nothing sweet about the suffering that happens in this story. This story is the ugly side of life, life unfiltered without the rose colored glasses. A life the fortunate can’t even imagine.

This story holds you victim and will manipulate your emotions. You become so invested in their story that you need them to find happiness. These characters have let us - the reader - into their lives, trusted us with the very unjust and depraved things ever done to them, witnessing their shame and heartache. And it all makes sense on why the habitual usage of drugs is paramount in their lives. Granting some form of happiness and escape, releasing them from their true circumstances.

Don’t read this book unless you are prepared to cry and cringe at the unjust of actions against these unfortunate imperfect individuals. But just let me say that the the journey is worth it. UNFORGETTABLE. BRILLIANT BOOK!

As a debut for Charity B this series is a tremendously sensational introduction and has already garnered an automatic one click status from this reader!!

Good plot!

Mild Spoilers ahead!

I don't know how to write this review without sounding too harsh. Don't get me wrong, the book was enjoyable, it was well written and gritty. I really loved Alexander and every girl would wish for someone like him. He's strong, extremely devoted and supportive.

What I didn't enjoy much was the heroine, while I understand her past and conditioning, I felt her love for Toben overshadowed her feelings for Alexander. She never really put Alexander first while all he did was to support her in everything.

This would have been a 5 star read if the heroine was stronger and got her priorities right. I would like to see the romance between the hero and heroine even if it's a dark book. I didn't get the depth of Tavin's feelings for Alexander. That being said, this is a very personal opinion and don't let this come in the way of reading this book.

Intense,heartbreaking and yet impossibly uplifting

Just as with book one this is wonderfully dark ,twisted and fraught with incredible intensity and indelible heartbreak but is also highlighted with moments of shining beauty.I have loved getting acquainted with these unique characters and am fascinated by their traits and mysteries as well as by their singular volatile connection.
Events and the characteristic puzzle pieces of their lives snowball to a stunning unexpected breath taking, action packed conclusion. I have become addicted to these lovely quirky personalities and have delighted in their rise from the ashes and couldn't be more thrilled that there is another volume to experience!

The second book in the series starts right where book one left off.

The tone of the book is different in this book, it is hard to explain, but I guess book is more about the events and how they affect everyone and their relationship. While in the first book the relationship between Alexander and Tavin was the main part.

This book had more darker elements when we found about more about Tavi and also Toben life with Logan. there are secrets in secrets. There is love, hope, despair, frustration, heartbreak but also tender and funny moments.

The book is full of details and descriptions, while that gives the book depth, it also slows down the tempo of the book. I did find myself skimming a few dinners and nights out.

This book is the second in a series and must be read after book one. I wanted to know more about Tavin and Toben's background after the first book and the author certainly delivers. I had a feeling that their story was going to break my heart and boy was I right. Both of them are such messed up characters but seeing just a small glimpse of where they came from explains so much about their behaviors. Alexander loves Tavin so much. She has so much baggage and even though he gets angry with her or upset with her his love never diminishes. This story is full of hope and despair. Love and hate. Joy and grief. It is hard to read at times but I couldn't put it down.

Don't let the sweet cover fool you...This is dark, very dark with explicit sexual content, drug use, violence, descriptive scenes of sexual abuse and rape. Since its book two, I don't want to spoil anything but you'll learn more of Tavin's backstory, while her present day love story with Alexander continues. As gruesome as some of the scenes are, the book kept my attention and was very thought-provoking (and sometimes head-scratching). I would have loved to have gotten a little more of the end - it felt a bit rushed and I have some questions. I am curious what the next book holds - if it's going to be all backstory, some of Tavin and Alexander's story between present day and the epilogue, or if we're going to get more from some of the secondary characters like Sasha.
