Cabinet members fear they will be bounced within days into agreeing Theresa May’s controversial Brexit blueprint to finalise a deal with the EU next month.

The prime minister is telling colleagues that she wants agreement from them on the next batch of negotiating guidelines this week.

The Times revealed this morning it had seen leaked cabinet papers sent round Whitehall in recent days which reveal that Mrs May’s Brexit plan could leave the UK in a “long-running” transition period over years despite her promise that it would only last a few months. This caused uproar at cabinet yesterday after which one of those present said that the PM was now aware of the “red lines”.
