Southampton v Stoke City is still on for the time being, Saints have announced.

A statement on the club website reads: “Southampton Football Club is continuing to monitor conditions ahead of the Premier League home game against Stoke City .

“Saints are set to welcome Paul Lambert’s team to St Mary’s tomorrow afternoon, for a 3pm GMT kick-off.

“Following heavy snowfall in the region, the club has been consulting with Hampshire Police, Southampton City Council, the Premier League and Stoke, and will continue dialogue throughout the day with all relevant parties."

The club later confirmed they hoped the game would go ahead tomorrow, adding: "Following continued consultation throughout the day, the club and authorities expect the game to go ahead at its scheduled 3pm GMT kick-off time."

Although weather forecasts for tomorrow suggest the game should be safe, with temperatures estimated to be well about freezing and rain expected rather than more snow, ice in and around the environs of St Mary’s could yet be deemed unsafe.

And more snow is expected across Hampshire later today, potentially making travel to the south coast difficult for fans. Stoke’s official coaches for the 200-mile trip are due to leave the bet365 Stadium at 8.30am tomorrow.
