USA Water Ski and Wake Sports Foundation signs $800,000 Sponsorship Deal with Polk County

Polk County once again cemented its reputation as the water sports capital of the world by entering into a National Marketing Sponsorship Agreement with the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation (USA-WWF) on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The $800,000 marketing sponsorship between USA-WWF and Central Florida's Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing (PCTSM) will help support the under-construction USA Water Sports Complex being built alongside Lake Myrtle in Auburndale, on the other side of the current Lake Myrtle Sports Park.

"We expect the completed water park to be a huge asset to what we already have at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park," said Mark Jackson, the director of tourism and sports at PCTSM. "The natural synergy between the water park and the existing soccer and baseball fields will not only bring more visitors to Polk County but also provide yet another unique experience for Central Florida visitors."

For USA-WWF Executive Director Tracy Mattes, the agreement adds to an already strong portfolio of partners.

"We are delighted to announce this sponsorship deal," said Mattes. "Our partnership with PCTSM demonstrates a mutually beneficial relationship that advances our shared goals, including hosting state, regional, national and even world cup events. The strong team of partners we have assembled continues to be an important factor in ensuring the continuance and success of this project."

The USA Water Sports Complex will include not only a water ski and wakeboard cable park, allowing riders to complete jumps and tricks without the need of a boat, but also a pro shop, water front café, a hall of fame, a manmade championship event water sports lake and an adaptive water sports center. Future expansion, including sites for a manmade surf park and hotels, is planned.

The water sports complex adds to the plethora of fields and activities already available at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park. Featuring nine collegiate baseball fields and 11 lighted international competition-sized soccer fields, as well as a 10-mile running and biking trail, Lake Myrtle is not only home to the largest collegiate Spring Training baseball tournament in the world but also home to the headquarters for the Florida Youth Soccer Association, the largest youth sports organization in Florida affiliated with U.S. Soccer, the USOC's official governing body of the sport.
