Hornets return home looking to extend three game winning streak

Alabama State looks to avenge earlier losses to Southern and Alcorn State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home for back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests, looking to avenge earlier losses this season and extend their current three-game winning streak. The game on Saturday is part of Alumni Weekend and is a "White Out" inside Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
Alabama State (6-18, 6-6 SWAC) currently sits in sixth place in the conference standings, but just one game from third place overall heading into the weekend. The Hornets fell to Southern, 63-61, and Alcorn State, 81-64, with both games coming on the road in mid-January.
 
The Hornets come into the game riding a three-game winning streak, all on the road over Mississippi Valley State, UAPB and Alabama A&M. During the streak, Alabama State as inched their way into the conference discussion as other teams have dropped conference games. The Hornets are just back of Southern, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern and Jackson State in the standings; and just ahead of Alcorn State.
 
Reginald Gee leads Alabama State in scoring at 14.3 points per game this season, while also grabbing 4.5 rebounds per game. Jacoby Ross is averaging 11.9 points per game, while also averaging 13.7 points per game in conference play.
 
Branden Johnson, fresh off his fifth double-double of the season, is averaging 76 points and 6.9 rebounds per game during the regular season. In conference play he is averaging 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
 
Alabama State enters the game in the top 35 in the nation in offensive rebounding, and are averaging 35.9 rebounds per game. They also shoot 40.2 (565-of-1407) percent from the floor and 32.6 (165-of-506) percent from beyond the arc.
 
The Hornets and Southern tip at 5 pm, with pregame beginning at 4:45 pm on the Hornet Sports Network. Alabama State and Alcorn State will tip at 8 pm Monday night, with the game set for ESPNU.
