Ministry holds workshop in combatting human trafficking

DOHA: Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, concluded a workshop in cooperation with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), aiming to support national capabilities in combatting human trafficking. 

The Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, said that the three-day workshop aimed to train inspectors at the Ministry in the field of human trafficking. It is also part of a national  programme and a system organised by the State of Qatar to expand the capabilities in the Arab World in the field. 

The Minister met with a delegation of experts from UNODC led by their GCC representative Hatim Ali. The experts were the ones in charge of the training programme for building capabilities in the state to help counter human trafficking.    

The State of Qatar supported the Arab initiative for building national capabilities to fight human trafficking. The country implemented its programme in cooperation with UNODC. The country also contributed to the UN Fund for victims of human trafficking. 

National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, chaired by the Minister, is responsible for coordinating on a national level the process of spotting and preventing the trafficking of people. It is also responsible for promoting the concepts that help prevent human trafficking. Another role it has is ensuring that there is complete commitment to international agreements and protocols related to the field.
