Tool for advocacy
How did you collect data and from whom?
Policy sources and documents
Three face to face interviews (one oncologist and two patient group representatives)
Two quantitative and qualitative online surveys on access to lung cancer medicines from 16
countries (healthcare professionals, 54 responses; advocates, 8 responses)
A survey for pharmaceutical companies on access to lung cancer treatments and diagnostic
tests in 18 countries
Final data was reviewed by LuCE members
4. Evidence was collected about access
to diagnosis, treatment and care
Availability of lung cancer drugs
1.Dissemination of lung cancer clinical trials in Europe
2.Availability of modern radiotherapy equipment
3.Reasons related with the disparities in access in Europe
4.Data about pricing and reimbursement
5. How was the data used to bring about change?
Event at the European Parliament in November 2017 hosted by MEP Alojz Peterle
to raise awareness among different stakeholders
address the challenges in unequal access to diagnosis, care and treatment
Call to Action Campaign launched in February 2018 (online petition)
What was the final outcome?
The report has been used for advocacy purposes in the LuCE member countries
Tool for education and discussion (patients, advocates, health care personnel, policy makers)
Work is still ongoing
6. What would you do differently next time?
Focus on follow-up after the EU event and Call to Action
Organize more events / efforts to introduce report to national
policy makers in member countries
Translate the report to different European languages
(now translated to Spanish, Finnish and German in progress)
Support member associations in using the Report for advocacy
