Jordan Hugill hoping for Southampton involvement

West Ham United forward Jordan Hugill hopes to be involved against Southampton on March 31 after impressing in Wednesday's friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge.

West Ham United forward Jordan Hugill is hopeful of being involved against Southampton on March 31 after impressing in Wednesday's friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Hugill scored West Ham's third in their 3-1 win at the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Wednesday, but he has only played 12 minutes of Premier League football for the Hammers since arriving from Preston North End in January.

There will be huge pressure on the club to return to winning ways against Southampton at the end of this month, and Hugill is targeting a spot in the team.

"Obviously, the goal was good for me and good for the team and the 90 minutes I played and the hard work I put in should put me in the manager's mind," Hugill told West Ham's official website.

"But, at the end of the day it's down to the manager and not down to me and it's one of those things where I'll keep plugging away and plugging away and, when my time comes, I'll be ready for it.

"I'm really excited for the Southampton game, which is a massive game for the club and one that, if I play my part in it, I'd be delighted. It's a massive game so hopefully we can come out on top."

Hugill scored 10 times for Preston in the first half of the season before making the move to the London Stadium.
