Georgia football fans are counting down to the end of the 2020 recruiting cycle on National Signing Day, and DawgNation is chronicling all the buildup with the Signing Day Spotlight — presented by Kroger. Each day, host Brandon Adams will recap the big news for UGA fans from around the recruiting trail as the Bulldogs attempt to once again assemble one of the country’s top classes. On this edition of the Signing Day Spotlight, BA shares details of a recent comment by five-star UGA cornerback signee Kelee Ringo about the Bulldogs’ chances of earning the No. 1 class.

Five-star signee hints that UGA might finish with No. 1 class

The race to finish with the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class is always a fun topic in the buildup to National Signing Day, and Georgia currently sits in an enviable spot. UGA is third according to the 247Sports Composite Team Ranking — two spots behind top-rated Clemson and just below second-ranked Alabama.

However, according to one Bulldogs signee, UGA might soon overtake its recruiting rivals.

That’s the subject of this edition of the Signing Day Spotlight (video linked below).

Five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo recently responded to a tweet from a recruiting reporter about UGA’s class, and Ringo’s comment alluded to one of the most prominent figures in the 2020 class who was reportedly — at one point — set to be a Bulldog.

“If Zach [Evans] had stayed we would’ve been [No. 1] easily. It’s coming though,” Ringo tweeted this week.

The Evans saga has been a seemingly never-ending series of twists and turns that possibly might not be over yet. Evans signed a letter of intent with UGA in December, only to be later released from that agreement by the program according to published reports.

Comments from Evans during an interview at the UnderArmour All-America Game made it appear the Bulldogs’ decision was related to discipline. However, UGA has made no official statement on the matter.

For now, Evans recruitment remains ongoing, and any guess is as good as another as to where he’ll eventually land.

Was Ringo’s tweet an indication that Evans is still in play for UGA? Perhaps. Or maybe more likely, it’s a statement that he thinks the Bulldogs will have a strong close to National Signing Day whether Evans ends up in the class or not.

Either way, National Signing Day is famous for producing drama, and this year might be among the most dramatic in quite some time for UGA.
