Great durable back pack for our 16yr son

This was my moms college backpack before it was mine! It lasted her her last year and then 5 years of lugging it around her classroom and then it lasted me a year before finally getting to the point I want an upgrade! It is still in great condition the handle is a bit busted up, the straps are fraying, but it still holds everything and looks fine! Might end up giving it away to a friend in need of a back up bag.

The Targus Drifter II has some great features and lot's of compartiments that can hold alot more than just your laptop. I was surprised it could even contain my large DSLR camera with the lens detached and a lens, together with my 13" macbook pro and a Book.. it still has lots of space to hold my sports wear, external harddrive etc. The Drifter II feels solid and very strong, when carried on my back it feels comfortable thanks to the ergonomic padding they have added on the back and the straps. I needed a good backpack because I really do not want damage to my macbook, that the bottom has a stiffened armored solid feel and water tight protection also made me choose this backpack. The Targus Drifter II is wonderful.

One youtube review sold me on this one. The guy said it did not stick out like a large turtle on his back. My old backup was like that. So even though this backpack has lots (seriously) of pockets and storage, it just doesn't stick out like that. I'm sure if I pack it full, all the compartments, it's going to get fat. But with it not being fully packed, it stays fairly slim.

Also the waterproof bottom is good (especially in the Northwest). And it's true the zipper pulls are high quality. Also, the handle is more like what I've seen on the more expensive Swiss backpacks.with reinforced metal cable handles. I don't really get the trolley strap, but I haven't yet tried to strap it on to a rolling suitcase. My old targus backpack had a sleeve on the back and it just slipped over the handle of the rolling suitcase. Again, I don't see how this "trolley strap" is supposed to work, but I don't care that much.

This bag has lots of space and different areas to organize all the things I need to carry daily. It is also very durable and light.

This is a great backpack for its longevity, quality build, size, and design. Why?

1) Build/Longevity: I have owned this backpack for three years. In those three years I have used this backpack everyday to go to and from school (five days a week with a laptop and books in it), for hiking, and for travel. I travel a lot and use budget airlines, which means carry-on and no checked luggage (to save money). This thing has survived the clothes, toiletries, books, electronics, and the rigors of air travel (being stuffed under seats, in the overhead, in trunks, out in the woods, etc.).

2) Size/Design: I own a 17.3 inch laptop (Vaio VPCF2290x) and it fits with room to spare. The pockets are great for storing many different types of things: books, clothes, groceries, tools, etc.

3) Quality: I have put this backpack through its paces and it has never let me down. Heavy loads, outdoors (hiking, beach, etc.), planes, and so on. This thing laughs at 5 liters of liquid (I had to carry groceries in this).

4) Comfort: the pads on the back are a nice touch and the straps don't dig into your shoulders even when fully loaded.

5) Targus has a lifetime warranty on all their bags...yes, I said lifetime warranty.

Bought this for my husband. He had an old Targus backpack, which had a similar (yet different) layout and he likes that a bit more. No faults with this backpack, but he just liked his old (but needed to be retired) backpack more.

This Targus TSB238US 16" Drifter II Laptop Backpack failed within several months of use. Seam failed, Zipper came off pocket material.  No way to repair.  Don't recommend this backpack despite appealing design .  Past Targus backpacks in use for years without problems.
