Beautiful Rivers #3

Beautiful Dark

Rate this book
His father is dead, and it’s my uncle’s fault. We shouldn't be attracted to each other, but we can't resist.

Mason Reeves is the living embodiment of a family secret too awful to bear. When my cousin invites him to Thanksgiving in the hopes of healing the past, she only creates a new problem.

He shouldn't make my heart flutter. I shouldn’t be entertaining indecent thoughts.

And we definitely shouldn't be exchanging heated glances while my family sits just feet away.

Maybe I shouldn’t reach out to him, but I can’t help myself. He can't help himself either. In fact, he helps himself to every last inch of me.

I do nothing to stop it. I encourage it. I practically beg.

But this was never meant to last. I’ve always known, no matter how much I tried to pretend.

After all, it's not his history that will be our undoing.

It's mine.

Another beautiful, emotional and phenomenal story from author J.L. White!

I absolutely love the Beautiful Rivers Series by Ms. White and couldn’t wait to begin the third book, Beautiful Dark. This story begins with Lizzy flying out to Mason Reeve’s house to get answers to questions that were raised in the second book, Beautiful Fall. Lizzy and Mason seem to come to a better understanding of their situation, but it is still a rocky road for the rest of the families.

Mason flies to California to look at the house he was gifted in Lizzy’s father’s will. While there, Lizzy invites him over for a Thanksgiving feast, which causes an uncomfortable situation for all. While at the party, Mason meets Corrine, Lizzy’s cousin. Mason and Corrine are captivated with the other, but their family’s connection does not make it easy to date. Can they overlook everything that has happened? What will their families say?

Beautiful Dark’s storyline is unexpected, refreshing, and unique and I loved every minute of it. I cried, laughed, grimaced and grinned to this excellent, steamy and heartwarming story.
One of my favorite books of 2017! #OneClick!

Beautiful Dark is had more angst in my opinion than the previous two books in the Beautiful Rivers series. I won't tell you why, because then it would fall into the spoiler douchery category, but once you read them all, you'll understand what I'm saying. This story is about Corrine, who is a cousin, but was basically raised with the Rivers siblings, and Mason, who was a dark horse in the series. See, he was left an inheritance as well, and no one could figure out why, so all kinds of questions were raised. Lizzy Rivers was the only one who got them answered, and it was harsh. However, it wasn't as harsh as Mason was led to believe, so Lizzy started making friends with him, which brought him into Corrine's orbit. They clicked, and their chemistry lit the sheets on fire during sexy times, though not everyone was happy about that fact once it was revealed to be honest. However, it wasn't Mason who played the push & pull game, nope, it was sweet Corrine, and the one who set her straight was the last person you would believe, so you'll just have to read how this one pans out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

When Corrine and Mason meet, it's not an easy meet. No, it's awkward and tense because Mason is at her cousins' home because Lizzy, one of her cousins, invited Mason over when she flew out to see if her was her previously unknown brother. Yeah...

Mason's uncomfortable being at the family home of the man who accidentally killed his father when Mason was young. But Corrine's presence makes things somehow easier. So it's easy for them to slip into a friendship of sorts online and via text. They get to know each other and find they really like each other. But, how can they possibly start something when they live so far apart? When Corrine's ever present fear of her cancer coming back overshadows her life?

I found myself easily falling for these two. They were such a lovely couple, with real, honest emotions and behavior. Of all the Rivers' clan, this is by far my favorite story. Definitely waiting impatiently for more from this author!

Wow, what an amazing match!

When I started this book, I thought all the dark secrets belonged to Mason and why he refused his inheritance. But really, the darkness belongs to Corrine and her reasons for avoiding commitment. Her story is truly heartbreaking, but completely understandable. It takes real guts on her part and patience on Mason's for them to overcome such an insurmountable issue.

As with the previous books in this series, the writing is stellar and the characters feel like friends you've known for years. Mason has a gut-wrenching journey of his own, and his emotions bleed right through the pages into your heart. Corrine's story is both one of pain and triumph, and I was truly grateful for the beautiful epilogue the author included. This story is not to be missed. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

For most of the book, Corinne was holding back. While I understand Corinne’s reasoning, I find the action that emanated from it annoying. Mason is a sweetheart (bakes, fixes stuff around the house) who is providing her moments, including lots of scream-inducing sex, and she has the gall to do that to him! That was just ridiculous! Nevertheless, Ms. White crafted a story that blended character development, plot, and romance seamlessly. It has the right balance of dialogue, narrative, and thought monologue. This is a story about hope and living after cancer. It is a beautifully written story that will grab your heart and keep you reading way past bedtime. This book is another hit from the super awesome Beautiful Rivers series. It was beautiful as it was heart breaking because I felt their struggles and their joys deep in my heart and in every chapter. I loved that I got a glimpse of Connor and Whitney's super special day and Lizzy and Brett's love blossoming too. But most of all I felt really bad for Corrine and I admired her strength more till the end. It sucks fighting the big C but it helped knowing she had the love of a lot of people who matters. It was right not to take away the choice from Mason to stick around. I wish people struggling with cancer can read this because it truly is an inspiration not to give up on moments and the future.

The title of this book is so good and descriptive making me want to read the book as I don’t always believe love is sunshine and roses. There are a lot of strong emotions in this book with Mason being at the home of the man who killed his father when he was young. Even though it’s an accident it’s still a hard feeling to process with out some hate. Corrine’s being there seems to ease his emotions leading to a easy friendship to begin with but with her fear of her illness returning and them living far apart can they make something on this relationship?

A beautiful, heartwarming story about a young man’s struggle with forgiveness and forging friendships with the family of the man he thought responsible for his father’s death. And a young woman who lives life in the moment, fearing the future following a prior life threatening illness. Full of hilarious family banter, anger, tears, fear of living, healing, forgiveness, passion, and love. Readers will fall in love with the characters of Beautiful Dark, they will laugh and cry, and won’t want to put this book down.

Mason is in the will and Lizzie invites him to thanksgiving as she wonders if he is her lost brother. Things are very awkward the only saving grace is Corinne Mason likes her but pulls away he wants nothing to do with the family. Corrine won't give up so easy though and she friends him on facebook soon they are texting and talking and a friendship forms. This friendship develops into so much more but are the family politics going to tear them apart or do they have a chance at a HEA

A well written emotional read in continuation of this series. Mason is flew in by Lizzy to meet and get to know family because evidence shows he is the illegitimate child of uncle Grant. He meets Corrine Lizzy's distant cousin. Who both have their own set of emotional baggage /issues. There is strong chemistry between the two and the story is told in dual POV'S. It is an excellent heartwarming and steamy story.

His father is dead and it was her uncles fault. They should keep away from each other but they just cannot. It was just meant to be a short time thing but it just goes on and on. How far will it go? Can it ever work? See what will happen

Binge-reading continued...

And enjoying every minute of it. Loved Corrine and Jason's story; at first glance a highly unlikely pairing and seeming doomed to fail. What a burden for Corrine at such a young age and the dark cloud hanging over her head. A heart-felt, beautiful story. Now it's on to Rayce...

It’s a sad and hopefull story in the same time. A bit sappy for my licking. I think it’s a bit to focus on Corrine point of view.

I read this book back in 2017, but apparently I didn't leave a review. I fell in love with this author after reading the fireworks girls. Now, its a no brainer to know to read her other works. But if you needed more convincing, reading book one and two of the four in the Beautiful Rivers Series, will have you convinced. This is book three in the series. Each book is written as a standalone, there are no cliffhangers in this series. no cliffhangers, that alone is practically enough to get me willing to read a book. But honestly if you started reading this book, I can assure you that you will be sucked right in. And as you learn Corrine's character, you get to learn her family too. Each book adds a new family member, a new love, and a new drama trying to stop them. But you need Mason for that too. You just have to read to see why. Mason was actually in book two, Beautiful Fall, also. Well, he was spoke about and searched about and assumptions made, but Lizzy acted in the end of the book to talk with mason
