Event Information

Aoling Festival – Photography Group Tour 2019

Stretched over six days, the Aoling Festival provides an excellent insight into the rich cultural heritage of the Konyak tribes. The Konyaks come from a strong practice of head-hunting. You will find shelves stocked with skulls in testament to their many victories. This festival marks the big spring feast that takes place immediately after the jhum crop has been sowed, and in this case lasts for a full six days. Witness the religious ceremonies, dances and attires, traditional cuisines and drinks of the Konyak Tribes and get a chance to observe the sustainable lifestyle of this age old tribal community.

The Tour

Duration: 3 Nights / 4 Days

Destinations: Nagaland

Dates: 4nd April – 7th April 2019

The Passage

Day 01 Dibrugarh – Mon

Arrive Dibrugarh by air/train. Later drive early morning to Mon in Nagaland, the land of the head hunters, inhabited by the Konyak Tribes. This drive will be through lush green valley of the tea estates of Assam. Check into your lodge on arrival, this is a small town, so accommodation will be basic but there is a great opportunity for you to explore the head-hunting culture that over rules all.

Day 02 Mon

‘Konyak’ are seen as one of the antiquated tribes of the sixteen Naga tribes in Nagaland and can be perceived as the most traditional of all the tribes. They have given up their head-hunting ways in todays age and are adept artisan and skilled craftsman. Find yourself around with some excellent woodcarving, doas (machete) guns, gunpowder, head brushes necklace etc.

Spend your full day at this big spring feast with religious ceremonies, dances and attires, traditional cuisines and drinks of the Konyaks.

Day 03 Mon

After an early breakfast you will be driven to Longwa village with packed lunch. True tradition is seen here where people are still untouched by modern ways. Meet the village folks, see their way of life and we bet you will have an interesting conversation listening to their head hunting days. This is one of the biggest Konyak villages and on the border ridge between India and Myanmar (Burma). Later return to Mon and visit local market. You will still find the festive spirit dawdle around the region.  Overnight back in your lodge.

Day 04 Mon – Dibrugarh

Today after an early breakfast drive your way to Dibrugarh for your onward journey.
