The Florida Tech Panthers got another conference win on Thursday, taking down the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 6-4 in West Palm Beach. The win moved the Panthers to 24-18 0verall, and 12-10 in the conference.

Andy Marzheuser (7-2) got the win on the mound for the Panthers, despite giving up an uncharacteristic 10 hits over five innings of work. Jake Lane pitched three innings of one-hit ball in relief, and Panthers closer Ryan Allain picked up his 11th save, despite giving up a run in the ninth. Allain is now one save away from tying the Panthers single-season record.

The Sailfish (21-22, 11-14 SSC) got to Marzheuser in the bottom of the first, with RBI singles from Danny Tufariello, and Brandon Smith, to go up 2-0.

The Panthers came right back in the top of the second, putting four runs on the board against Mitchell Carroll. Blaise Maris was hit by a pitch, and Brett Parrish followed with a walk. After Raul Quintero was hit, loading the bases, a Dylan Owens single brought Maris home to close it to 2-1. Parrish would then score on a wild pitch, knotting the game 2-2.

A sacrifice fly by Rodnie Bernard later in the inning made it 3-2, and an RBI single by James Gronberg scored Owens with the final run of the inning.

Derek Schwimer’s RBI single got the home team within one in the bottom of the second, 4-3. The score remained that way until the top of the fifth. Jacob Buser led off the frame with a home run, and a single by Vinny Catanza later in the frame, scored Parrish, making it 6-3.

Allain took over for Lane in the bottom of the ninth, walking the first batter he faced. After getting Schwimer to ground into a double-play, Allain walked Sean Houck and then threw two wild pitches, before walking Tufariello. A double by Brandon Seltzer scored Houck to make it 6-4, but Allain settled down just in time to strike out Smith, ending the game.
