Learning Plan Update
We know that families are wondering what our District’s next steps may be as COVID-19 case rates increase in Hennepin County. Please know that we are in regular and close contact with State and County public health experts as case rates fluctuate. Our partners at the Minnesota Department of Education continue to emphasize serving our high-needs students in-person as much as possible.

At least through Nov 13th, we will continue in step 3 of our learning plan. We will provide an update on our learning plan and expectations for staff reporting as soon as possible.
Family Meal Information for Fall Break
School will not be in session Wednesday, November 25th - Friday, November 27th, for Fall break.  However, free meals for kids ages 18 and under and students over 18 who are enrolled in one of our district programs will still be available during that time.  See below for how your student may receive these free meals based on the current learning model they are in.

Connected (Distance) Learners - Students in distance learning can sign up for free meals on the Meal Order Form.  A meal pre-order is required one week ahead.  Meals can be picked up on Friday, November 20th, for meals the week of November 23rd.  However, due to school buildings being closed on Friday, November 27th, we will be moving that normal Friday meal pick up day to Monday, November 30th, for the following week's meals.

Group A (Monday/Tuesday) Hybrid Learners - Students in Group A do not need to order or pick up meals for Fall Break week.  Meals for November 25-27th will be sent home with students at the end of the school day on November 26th, unless you have opted out of receiving them.

Group B (Wednesday/Thursday) Hybrid Learners - Students in Group B will be sent home with a 3 day meal pack on the 19th, that will contain weekday meals for November 20-24th.  Families with students in Group B wanting to receive free meals for November 25th - December 1st, will need to place an order on the Hybrid Learning Fall Break Meal Order Form by Friday, November 13th, at 6 am.  Meal packs will include 5 weekdays of breakfasts and lunches for weekdays, November 25 - December 1st.  Meal packs will need to be picked up at one of our school sites on Friday, November 20th.  Please see the meal order form for additional information.

We look forward to continuing to feed students during this school break.

E-learning Days this Winter
We hope your family can enjoy some of our last nice weather days, as we will soon be faced with icy roads, cold weather, and snowy days. As winter approaches, we wanted to inform you about a new plan for “e-learning days” should we need to close due to inclement weather or a problem with the building (such as burst pipes). District 287 will use e-learning days beginning this year as needed.

E-learning days will allow students to learn from home during unsafe weather conditions, like extreme cold or a dangerous blizzard. Especially now that we have issued devices and Internet hotspots to every student who needs them, e-learning days are an ideal approach for student learning. E-learning days will be similar to what staff and students experience during distance learning; however, e-learning days have a specific purpose of replacing a no school day due to inclement weather or building conditions.

Student E-learning Day Policies and Expectations
We will deliver the announcement for students to remain at home via our mass notification system. An announcement of an e-learning day does not mean there is no school. We expect that students demonstrate learning and complete coursework from home.

If a student follows the below coursework instructions, they will receive attendance credit for the day. If a student does not perform schoolwork, on or offline, they will be considered absent.

If a student has access to the Internet, Log on to Moodle or their Google account and identify new coursework or coursework that has not been completed. Be sure to submit work to the instructor through Moodle’s submission box or your instructor’s email.

If a student does not have access to the Internet, we will ask families to contact the school’s main office to let them know what they will be working on from home and use printed materials to complete work. The office will relay any questions to teachers if the student doesn’t know what to work on. Families can also use educators’ Google Voice numbers, which are available on Moodle pages. If the office staff does not answer the phone, we ask that they leave a message with the student’s name and what they plan to work on from home during the e-learning day.  Under this e-learning plan, District 287 will not need to make up any school days in the spring as we typically would need to do. Should we announce an e-learning day, we will communicate to families via email, voice message, and text message. Be sure to sign up for text messages by calling your school office.
