A Pizza My Heart

Most people would probably be embarrassed to land themselves back in their hometown and working at a pizzeria after an ugly divorce.

Not me.

It’s home, and I have one last shot to make Wren Daniels see me as more than just her brother’s best friend.

When the opportunity to show her what’s been right in front of her this whole time presents itself, I take it, holding nothing back this time.

Wren thinks we’re pretending, but there’s nothing fake about the way I feel.

After all, she’s always had…a pizza my heart.

A Pizza My Heart is a fun friends to lovers/brother's best friend romance. Teagan Hunter always makes me laugh while reading her books. I loved this one to pieces.

Foster Marlett has been friends with the Daniels twins for a long time. As he got older, his friendship with Wren turned into more. For him at least. Wren was, well, oblivious. Not wanting to mess up the friendship, he went off and got with someone else. That turned into a marriage then later a divorce. Maybe it was inevitable though. She wasn't Wren.
Maybe the reason all these dates—hell, my marriage even—didn’t work out is because I was never with the right person. Maybe…just fucking maybe…that right person is Wren. If only I could convince her I’m more than just her brother’s best friend.

Now that Foster is back in town, Wren is starting to see him in a different light. Foster is trying to get back out there and doing an awful job of it. So Wren helps him out. By fake dating him. You see where this is going, right? Gah! I love the fake dating troupe. It's always the best. It was only a matter of time before those 'fake dates' turned into something very real.

Wren is the kind of heroine I love. Sassy with no filter and a huge heart. Foster was a nice guy who had been hurt, but was picking up the pieces. He was also super funny. I think he made me laugh more than anyone in the book. I loved watching that little light bulb in Wren's head go off and having her see Foster the way he had always seen her. Swoooon.
It’s perfect. Everything I didn’t know I was missing. Everything I didn’t know I want. Everything I need.

I also loved the family dynamic of this story. Wren's brother Winston was a hoot and I adored their dad. Much of this book takes place in Wren's dad's pizzeria. Wren's bff was also great. After getting the sneak peak of the next book in this series... I'm dying for it!!

This was a sweet, steamy, and easy read. I love Teagan's brand of humor. If you're looking for a great friends to lovers romance, I recommend checking this one out!

After disappearing for four years without so much as a goodbye, he's back, and something has definitely changed about him other than his marital status.

Long gone is the boy who left on a whim.

He's taller.
Darker.
And have his arms always been that big?

When he starts sending looks my way I know I should ignore, I can't help but wonder if there's something between us that wasn't there before.

“You know exactly what I mean. When she sees it, she won’t be able to look away. Just give her time.”

⇢The Plot
Unfortunately, this book took the cliches too far for my taste. This was a brother’s best friend romance, right? So usually it takes a while for them to get together because they start out as indifferent towards each other or friends. But no, this book had to pull the “you’re in love with me but don’t know it” and the “let’s pretend” for the entire book until it just got old. I’m sorry but when you’re 90% into the book and still using that as an excuse, it just feels weird.

⇢The Romance
That being said, I guess Wren and Foster were somewhat cute? I guess I just didn’t particularly love them or hate them they were just okay. I feel like the next couples will be better but at the same time I don’t think I’m invested enough in these characters to continue.

“Because you and I, Wren—we’re bound to happen. Whether you want it or not, you have a piece of my heart, and I don’t want it back.”

⇢Wren and Foster
As characters, I honestly felt the same. They were pretty underdeveloped, and I would have loved to see flashbacks to when they had been friends in their childhoods. I think that could have set up the story in a much better way. The story was obviously set up as a brother’s best friend story, but Foster didn’t even seem to fit that role since he had left to live in California or wherever.

Wren and Foster are best friends-to-lovers. They were cute and the banter was hilarious. A sweet love story that had its sexy moments.

This was pretty cute, but the first 3/4 or so was a lot better for me than the ending. I felt like things were progressing at a perfectly rational pace until suddenly everything was lightning-fast, there was no tension, there were strings left untied (especially regarding a decision Foster makes for Wren that goes almost completely unaddressed), and worst of all, the big romantic confession moment felt very anti-climactic.

The humor was fun, the characters were lovable, and I would definitely continue the series, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by how abruptly this book lost me.

Read for the Hoemance Book Club October 2021 BOTM!

Cheesy! Pizza...so cheesy! Pizza, my heart, get it? OK, I'll stop now. The cutest thing about this book was the title, which was why I read it, but it kind of went downhill from there. I thought it was going to be funny or witty, but it was kind of bland and a bit dull. I'm just not a fan of the whole oblivious thing and this whole book was based on that, so no. It missed the mark for me.

A Pizza My Heart is downright adorable. This book had be giggling, swooning, and cheering on the characters from beginning to end. I loved Wren and Foster! I love how they had a connection years ago that wasn't acknowledged but later rekindled. I love how easy their love story was; there wasn't any unnecessary drama or over the top issues to ruin the book. And I absolutely fell hard for the secondary characters! I cannot wait for Drew's story next! She had me laughing uncontrollably! Ladies and gent's this is a wonderful story and I devoured it in one day! I think many will agree that this series is going to be a total hit!

A Pizza My Heart is a standalone novel in the Slice series. Each book will be interconnected but have their own love stories. I think for best reading experience interconnected standalones should still be read in order, but that's just my opinion. If you want to familiarize yourself from characters that will appear throughout the series then I definitely recommend starting with this one- it's too good to be missed anyway!

A Pizza My Heart is an entertaining, lighthearted read where pizza plays a BIG part in the story! If you're a pizza lover, a romance lover, and/or romcom lover you won't want to miss this one! I recommend it!

Oh, I just love a good Teagan Hunter book. Her sassy, comedic, and steamy writing always makes for the perfect combination in a book. This past year I have fallen in love with the Romantic Comedy book, and she played a HUGE part in that when I stumbled upon her Texting series. <--Go run and check those out..seriously, laugh out loud funny, and you can't put them down! A Pizza My Heart was no different, it was another great Teagan Hunter read. This book releases on JUNE 20TH and it comes HIGHLY recommended by me! So make sure you get yourself a copy!

"Most people would probably be embarrassed to land themselves back in their hometown and working at a pizzeria after an ugly divorce. Not me. It's home, and I have one last shot to make Wren Daniels see me as more than just her brother's best friend. When the opportunity to show her what's been right in front of her this whole time presents itself, I take it, holding nothing back this time. Wren thinks we're pretending, but there's nothing fake about the way I feel. After all, she's always had...a pizza my heart."

"I'm gonna date you so hard, Wren."
Not fake date me.
Date me.

Foster has moved back to his hometown after a horrible divorce, he isn't ashamed, he's excited. He finally has that chance to convince Wren that he's the one for him, even though she's the reason he left all those years ago. What starts out as Wren helping a "friend" by fake dating him to get him back into the game, ends up with Foster desperately trying to see if Wren feels anything like he feels.

The thing I love about Teagan's writing is that her characters are so relatable. They are hilarious, they are awkward, and they say and do things that everyone does. She makes you love these people, and not just the main characters, it's always every character in the book. And nothing makes me feel better than laughing (and also swooning) through a book. Her books always end making me feel so happy.

"Because you and I, Wren- we're bound to happen. Whether you want it or not, you have a piece of my heart, and I don't want it back."

I loved Foster. Sure, he had been burned in his divorce, but he wasn't letting that get to him. None of that really mattered to him anyway, he just wanted Wren. He wasn't ashamed about his feelings, and he didn't care who knew it. I especially liked the scenes where he brought his dates into the pizzeria and Wren was their waitress, every. single. time. He was hilarious, and he was so in love, she was literally the only person that couldn't see it. Did I just completely screw this up? Did I take it too far? Did I -No. Fuck that. I'm going after what's mine. He was just a guy, in love with a girl, and he didn't make it complicated. That is so refreshing to read sometimes.

"Without another word, he's gone, rushing back inside like he didn't just flip my world on it's axis."

Wren, was absolutely hilarious. She was sassy, she told everyone exactly what she thought, and she did not care what anyone thought about her. She was a no holds back kind of girl, and I loved that. She was kind of dense when it came to Foster, not seeing what literally everyone around her was seeing, but I could see how that could happen. When you have been friends with someone for so long, it's hard to take off those glasses and picture them in a new light. It was absolutely hysterical to read her thoughts as she was finally realizing maybe there was a little more to Foster than what she thought, she was really in denial.

I liked the chemistry between Wren and Foster. I especially liked that this was a slow burn type of romance book. That will they or won't they writing that draws you in and keeps you turning the pages. I like when I'm reading a book and I'm just like are these characters ever going to get it together and take care of that chemistry, it always makes it worth it when they finally do.

Wrens twin brother, Winston was probably one of my favorite characters. He didn't do anything for anyone, didn't care what anybody thought, and just basically lived each day exactly how he wanted. His reaction when Foster told him his feelings for Wren was my favorite part of the book. There are so many books where the sibling gets mad, or their relationships and friendships change, and this wasn't one of those books, that was so refreshing. Can't help who your heart digs. Drew, Wren's best friend, was amazing. She had absolutely no filter, and she was hysterical. She and Wren were like the perfect match, and her hatred for Winston just added a whole new dimension to the story. I can't wait to see what comes next for her.

"You don't have a piece of my heart anymore, Foster."
"No?"
"No. You have the whole damn thing."
"Good, because a slice of it was never going to be enough."

Overall, this one is for sure getting 5 STARS! It had everything you need in a book. Teagan knows how to make me feel good after reading a book. This one made me laugh, made me swoon, and made me laugh some more. This was an easy read, and I had a huge smile on my face when I finished the last page, it doesn't really get better than that.

HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO A PIZZA MY HEART, the first book in a new series by Teagan Hunter: yessss! Thank you Teagan for providing me with an ARC.
This ARC was received in exchange for me leaving an honest review.

This was a quite typical Teagan Hunter read, with which I mean: a one sitting book < Once started, I just can’t stop reading anymore! It’s super fast paced thanks to the fun and addictive dialogues between the characters Wren and Foster have stolen a slice of my  🍕heart and brought a smile to my face the entire time while reading this story.

"It's soul-crushing knowing you could lose everything you've worked
so hard for and there's nothing you can do about it."

The characters were definitely a huge hit for me and have become one of my new faves when it comes to the characters Teagan has written about so far. I really liked reading Wren and Foster's POV a lot. I loved the chemistry present between them and it was just really joyous to read their story. Foster was so frigging swoon worthy, I can't even... sigh. Love him to death. You really need to get aquatinted with him, asap. My heart really broke for him when reading about his past, why he left and what he had to endure from then on. I loved seeing him fighting for a future with Wren. He deserves it all and more.

"I remember sitting on the beach watching Wren splash in the waves,
her and Simon fighting salty water at one another,
each of them turning bluer by the second.
With her being so far away, I could watch her unabashedly-
which was one of my favorite things about being on the beach.
Every time she'd throw her head back in laughter,
the sound would carry up the shoreline,
and that ever-present pinch in my chest would get just a little tighter.

I was mesmerized by her.
I was enraptured.
I was in love.
And she had no fucking clue."

And as always with Teagan’s books, the secondary characters are really great additions and have me wanting for books of their own (which is thankfully happening seeing book 2 is already announced, I Knead you Tonight)

The humor in this one was, as always, so deliciously present on the surface and had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. I love it when the humor in a book 'speaks' to me like this, has me reacting to it like this. What's not to love about a book that brings a smile to your face, right?

"Once I get a taste of you, that's it for me. Until then, I'll wait.
You'll give in soon enough."

"How can you be so certain?"
Without warning, he spins me toward him, piercing me with his intense stare. He lifts my hand to his chest, fanning my fingers out over his heart.
"Because you and I, Wren- we're bound to happen. Whether you want it or not, you have a piece of my heart, and I don't want it back."

I did have some remarks as well though. I felt like during the first 40% of the book the writing is extremely repetitive at times. Things are being repeated a lot. So much so, that it took me out of the story a bit from time to time. After the 40% mark though it really took off and I didn't felt like this anymore.

With the amazing chemistry present between those characters the build-up took a little too long for my liking haha. I like slow burn romance, but it depends on the execution. I don't like it if the characters prolong being together for too long and when it's a bit unnecessary to wait that long, you know? That had me feeling a bit frustrated, lol. There was a lot of 'tease' and they should've acted on it a bit sooner, in my opinion.

"He presses his lips to mine again, sweeping his tongue inside my mouth for a moment before pulling away. "What do you feel, Wren?" he whispers.
Confused. Consumed. Longing. Apprehension. Timorous.
I feel so many things.
Him. Me. Us.
I feel...
"Everything."

Overall, this wasn't the strongest book she's written so far but I really think this story is an amazing blend of the best dialogues filled with sass, humor and steam, the most fun characters, and as always; the addictive writing. Despite the remarks I had on the book, I can’t say anything other than that you should pick up this book if you’re into RomCom. I definitely recommend reading it.

Teagan Hunter is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to books in this genre > a MUST-READ author if you ask me! They're always fun to read and there may be remarks I have on some of the books she's written so far, but overall they always provide me with a really fun reading experience.

I cannot wait to see what more there’s to come in this new series by one of my favorite RomCom authors. The little excerpt present at the back of this book, for the next installment, is already leaving me aching for more by reading just 1 small chapter.

Thank you for reading!

5 Star review A Pizza My Heart by Teagan Hunter

This is a second chance at love story that captivated me from the first chapter to the last. To be honest just the name of this book A Pizza My Heart was enough for me to jump at the chance to review and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

There was nothing that I didn’t like about this story. Foster returns to town finally single determined that the women he has always wanted Wren Daniels, realise what she is missing. It’s time she sees Foster as a man and not her twin brother Winston’s best friend.

Foster knows that this is his last chance, however Wren refuses to see what is so plain to every one else, afraid to admit to the feelings she has managed to contain.

I loved Foster, he is totally swoon worthy and Wren is so feisty and sassy that you cannot help but admire her.

This book had me laughing so much I hurt my stomach muscles. There were oh so many snort out loud moments that my husband thought I was crazy and I ended up in tears.

A book that has it all, it’s funny, sweet, romantic, spicy and a tale of love. Ms. Hunter wove a story that ensured I didn't want to put it down and is a great example of romantic comedy.

One click this little gem, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

One thing I’ve come to learn from Teagan Hunter, is that she is ridiculously talented when it comes to writing RomCom stories. Her words just seem so effortless and they are an actual joy to read.
Being a massive fan of her previous books, I knew reading this one was going to be a no-brainer. I picked it up quite late last night, and this morning I went to work with bags under my eyes and a smile on my face; once I had started Wren and Fosters story, I just couldn’t stop. The banter between them was brilliant and I am a sucker for the whole “childhood best friends” trope. Side characters Drew and Winston added to the comedy and I am so looking forward to reading Drew’s story next. If you haven’t read any books by TH yet, I seriously recommend that you give this one a try!!

I'm giving this a 3/5 stars instead of a 3.5/5 because I read the ending and epilogue and the sneak peak of the next book in the series and it all reminded me of why I didn't really enjoy this book as much as I did in the beginning. I realized there was a lot of fillers in dialogue. I can feel Teagan trying to write a quirky and funny novel by adding a lot of banter and one liners but after 50% and no action between the two main characters, I was getting annoyed very quickly. It's slow burn. But it might be too slow. However, I enjoyed the basic framework of this story and it was cute in a lot of ways. But it had poor execution.

This best-friends to lovers romance gives us Wren and the guy who kept his feelings hidden from her - Foster. I was really enjoying the start of this book and settled in to enjoy - the banter was fun and entertaining and then some how my interest dipped low about half way through. So finished this feeling meh, but enjoyed the start.

📚 "You’ve been sneaking your way into my heart for the last thirteen years, piece by piece.”
“Slice by slice,” I tease. “I mean, it’s only right for us to compare it to pizza.” 📚

A-Pizza-My-Heart-2-jpeg

📚 "He never looked like he does now. He didn’t have those arms, that facial hair…or that deep, rumbling voice that makes it sound like he’s reading me one of my beloved audiobooks." 📚

📚 "Maybe the reason all these dates—hell, my marriage even—didn’t work out is because I was never with the right person.
Maybe…just fucking maybe…that right person is Wren." 📚

📚 "No romps in the stockroom. No—”
“Dad! We didn’t romp in the stockroom!”
“Oh bull. I practically created that room for romping for your mom and me. It was the only handle you and your brother couldn’t reach.”
“Dad!” I shout again, covering my ears. “I don’t need to hear that.”
“Your mom and I had sex, Wren. A lot of it.”
“I want to die.”
“I do too,” Foster mutters.📚

📚 "What’s your preferred time for me to ask you about your sexual fantasies?”
“How about—” He shakes his head, clamping his lips together. “Nope. No. I was going to smart off and say never, but that would be a lie because you can ask me about those at any time.” 📚

5/5 'Birdie' Stars 🌟 ▪▪ read through kindle unlimited ▪▪

▪▪▪ Because you and I, Wren, we’re bound to happen. Whether you want it or not, you have a piece of my heart, and I don’t want it back. ▪▪▪

Oh my heart. This was the cutest fluffing book I've read in a long time and I absolutely FLOVED it. I found myself smiling the whole way through.

After reading Doughn't Let Me Go (book 3 in the slice series) I just new I had to go back and read the 1st two books. Im slightly ashamed to admit that these books have been on my TBR for months but hey it's ok because I finally read them and I honestly feel like this was the perfect time as I was looking for a fun, sweet and easy to read low drama book and thats exactly what this was.

Foster moves back to his hometown after a failed marriage and runs into Wren one of his childhood best friends and the girl he was madly in love with except sadly she had no clue. He also happens to be best friends with her twin brother Winston.

Wren was upset when Foster left 4 years ago without so much as a goodbye. He was like family after all so now that he is back in town she doesn't trust that he wont just up and leave again. After witnessing him on some disastrous first dates she decides to help him by going on some pretend dates with him so he can get back out there. But why does it feel like they're not pretending.

Ugh seriously I NEEDED this book so bad. It was so light and funny but still had a few more emotional and heart felt scenes. Foster and Wren had the best banter and amazing chemistry and listening to the way Foster feels about Wren in his inner dialogue had me swooning so hard. I loved these two so much as well as every single side character and could read about all of them and never get bored. Teagan is fast becoming a favourite author of mine and I will definitely keep reading any and all of her books.

I will admit it. I've been cranky when it comes to books lately.

For a person who readily admits hates angst is upset that there was no angst.

I knew going in that A Pizza My Heart was going to be low on the drama and angst and I still dove in wholeheartedly expecting I don't know... some drama?

Her brother being pissed at his best friend for making a move on his sister? But nope. I didn't head these warnings when going in, like when I read it the outcome would be different. Silly, silly me.

What Teagan promised is exactly what she delivered with A Pizza My Heart, a cute love story that was low on drama and angst. She delivered with her signature snark and witty one liners but I just hoped for a little more.

A Pizza My Heart was a slice of laughter and a slice of sweetness all wrapped in cute friends to lovers story. I absolutely adored the side characters and Wren's father were really parts of the story and I can't wait to see where this series goes from here!

2.5 stars

what was the actual point of this book? even after finishing i can't honestly recall a moment that is going to be carved in my mind. the characters were all really meh and forgettable and the plot itself was just so common. where have i seen a guy who was secretly in love with a girl but after realizing she didn't feel the same way moves away for years and suddenly comes back? i wish i had enjoyed it more because the romance was kinda cute at times but the things i disliked or didn't care about are more numerous. like the "steamy scenes". what the hell were those? is this wattpad or something? or the sudden change of feelings. where's the whole romantic path they had to go through? am i blind or something?

Super cute book, 4.5 stars!

My first Teagan book, and absoloutely loved it!! Im not a huge fan of romcom because most of the time the book is too OTT, the jokes are too cheesy, and I end up cringing instead of laughing, but not this book! This book I did actually laugh or smile through it, it was such a cute and lighthearted book! It didn't have the unnecessary drama that other books have nowadays, and it's also nice for the guy to have the crush on the girl for a change. I can't wait for the next book, and will definetely be reading more Teagan books in the future!

3.5 Stars. As with all Hunter's books, the addictive writing made this a fast read. I really loved about the first half. I'm all about the slow burn. I also loved the banter. I just felt like once they started to get together it became all about the physical relationship, which kind of cheapened the actual love story. I also wish the secondary characters were developed a little bit more. However, it was a quick fun read and I definitely shipped Wren and Foster.

A really cute and wholesome friends to lovers.
Zero drama with great characters and chemistry.
Nothing too memorable about the book but quite entertaining to forget a bit of your real life.

I would have loved to read more about when they get together because that epilogue fell weak, but I guess in the next books there will be some cameos of Wren and Foster.

A Pizza My Heart is exactly what it looks like. A cute slow burn kinda-second-chance between two best friends.
If you're in the mood for a cute, sweet, without any kind of drama story this is the book for you.

I am always ready to read about male characters pining after their childhood best friend's.

Hower this one didn't really do much for me. Maybe I just need at least some angst in my books or at least some action. It felt like really nothing happened, but I still enjoyed some parts a lot. If it was another author, maybe, I would've dnf it early on. But Teagan has the ability of making me enjoy books that in the past I'd defined boring or not compelling enough.
Her stories are funny, they make you giggle out loud and have a great time.

Now, the side characters, Drew and Winston (Wren's brother) are intriguing. Especially after what we've learned in the last chapters. I can feel the angst calling me with an old catchy country song and I'm ready for it.
