Maybe the reason all these dates—hell, my marriage even—didn’t work out is because I was never with the right person. Maybe…just fucking maybe…that right person is Wren. If only I could convince her I’m more than just her brother’s best friend.
It’s perfect. Everything I didn’t know I was missing. Everything I didn’t know I want. Everything I need.
“You know exactly what I mean. When she sees it, she won’t be able to look away. Just give her time.”
“Because you and I, Wren—we’re bound to happen. Whether you want it or not, you have a piece of my heart, and I don’t want it back.”

Most people would probably be embarrassed to land themselves back in their hometown and working at a pizzeria after an ugly divorce.
Not me.
It’s home, and I have one last shot to make Wren Daniels see me as more than just her brother’s best friend.
When the opportunity to show her what’s been right in front of her this whole time presents itself, I take it, holding nothing back this time.
Wren thinks we’re pretending, but there’s nothing fake about the way I feel.
After all, she’s always had…a pizza my heart.
"It's soul-crushing knowing you could lose everything you've worked
so hard for and there's nothing you can do about it."
"I remember sitting on the beach watching Wren splash in the waves,
her and Simon fighting salty water at one another,
each of them turning bluer by the second.
With her being so far away, I could watch her unabashedly-
which was one of my favorite things about being on the beach.
Every time she'd throw her head back in laughter,
the sound would carry up the shoreline,
and that ever-present pinch in my chest would get just a little tighter.
I was mesmerized by her.
I was enraptured.
I was in love.
And she had no fucking clue."
"Once I get a taste of you, that's it for me. Until then, I'll wait.
You'll give in soon enough."
"How can you be so certain?"
Without warning, he spins me toward him, piercing me with his intense stare. He lifts my hand to his chest, fanning my fingers out over his heart.
"Because you and I, Wren- we're bound to happen. Whether you want it or not, you have a piece of my heart, and I don't want it back."
"He presses his lips to mine again, sweeping his tongue inside my mouth for a moment before pulling away. "What do you feel, Wren?" he whispers.
Confused. Consumed. Longing. Apprehension. Timorous.
I feel so many things.
Him. Me. Us.
I feel...
"Everything."
