The new boss of BT has unveiled plans to connect millions of homes with full fibre by the mid-2020s in a boost to its broadband targets.

Philip Jansen announced that the telecoms group would increase its target to connect four million premises by 2020-21, up from three million, and an “ambition” to connect 15 million premises by the mid-2020s, up from ten million, if the regulatory conditions are right.

There had been speculation before BT’s full-year results this morning that Mr Jansen would use his first formal presentation to the City to raise BT’s targets for connecting faster fibre-optic cables to premises.
