Jade Nicholl's gong winning piece 'Set Your Inner Dragon Free' took around hours to complete

A GLASGOW based make-up artist has won a top international prize for her stunning Harry Potter inspired dragon creation.

Jade Nicholl won the International Beauty Industry gong for best Character/Creative make up for her piece named "Set Your Inner Dragon Free".

The stunning creation sees the 24-year-old transformed into a lizard-like creature - complete with scales, glowing spores and horns.

The award, judged anonymously by global professionals, is one of the most prestigious in the world for smaller artisans.

And Jade has faced stiff competition from all over the world.

Award winners receive a special statuette, which is designed by the same people who create well-known awards such as the Emmys, Golden Globes, and the MTV awards.

Now Jade is delighted to have snagged such a prestigious prize.

She said: "The IBI award was really exciting for me because it was an anonymous award - meaning the panel had absolutely no idea who you were, how many followers you have, or the rest of your content.

"That's really rare these days as things normally go on the number attached to the top of your account rather than the work itself.

"That was my favourite part, that it was just based on your work.

"Not who you are."

Her winning piece, which was inspired by Harry Potter, took hours of painstaking work to create.

Jade said: "The dragon piece that I created took roughly four hours, not including the time it took to create the wings and horns.

"I would say that was another three hours, but the actual makeup itself about four hours to complete."

Jade has been doing makeup full time for the past two years and has recently been focusing on the SFX side of the industry.

And she likes to take inspiration from a wide variety of subject matters and sources.

She said: "I prefer something that has a more creative output and it's something different compared to the extremely saturated market of makeup artistry.

"My inspiration normally comes from film, theatre, ideology, other artists and pieces of artwork I find on the internet.

"It can be a photo of a sunset, or an artist's adaptation of a demon, it all depends on how I'm feeling that day."

Now Jade is offering her own advice for other budding makeup artists trying to make their name in the scene.

She said: "Don't be afraid to do looks that are outside the box.

"If you feel like doing something creative just put it out there.

"The industry is there for everyone, not just the pretty girls, not just the ones with the massive followings.

"Don't be afraid to be different - that's what this industry is all about."
