Rising Dem star announces engagement to same-sex partner

Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., announced Thursday his engagement to his same-sex partner.

Buttigieg shared the news on his Facebook page with a photo with his fiancé, writing, “He said yes! Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with Chasten Glezman.”

Buttigieg is widely regarded as a rising star in the Democratic party. Last year, a New York Times columnist wrote that he could possibly be the nation’s “first gay president.”

Buttigieg also ran to be chairman of the Democratic National Committee, dropping out before the first vote.

The 35-year-old Navy Reserve lieutenant came out publicly in 2015 in the South Bend Tribune, after he had been mayor for more than three years.
