Dirk Lange, Head of Unit for Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina within the European Commission Directorate General for Enlargement visited Srebrenica

Mr. Dirk Lange, Head of Unit for Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina
within the European Commission Directorate General for Enlargement
visited today the Memorial Centre Potocari to pay tribute to Srebrenica
victims.

Mr. Lange also visited the facilities of the International Commission
on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Tuzla, including the Podrinje
Identification Project and the Identification Coordination Division
(ICD).

The European Union allocated 1 million euro to ICMP’s Forensic
Sciences Department (FSD) in support to this organisation’s efforts to
resolve the fates of thousands of persons missing from the conflicts of
the last decade.  In the past period, the EU provided 900.000 euro to
support the work of ICMP’s s Blood collection teams and public outreach
campaign in EU countries. 

The European Union is committed to supporting the process of
rebuilding and reconciliation in all countries of the Western Balkans
and the work of the ICMP plays an important part in realising this goal.

Mr Lange arrived to BiH on Wednesday, 10 September to meet with BiH
authorities in order to discuss future programming of the EU assistance
and BiH’s progress on the road to the European Union.

Mr Lange was European Commission’s chief negotiator for the
Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
