The National Symphony Orchestra Cancels Japanese Tour Due to Coronavirus

By Francisco Salazar

The National Symphony has canceled its tour to Japan due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The orchestra announced via social media, “With sincere regret, we must announce that our planned tour to Japan cannot proceed at this time and has been canceled. This decision was made after careful consideration of the rapidly changing situation regarding coronavirus. Our thoughts go out to the people of Japan and we hope to schedule a future tour at the earliest opportunity. The NSO is planning orchestra and chamber music activities in the D.C. region in the coming weeks and will announce details soon.”

This is the latest orchestra to cancel activities due to the virus. The Philadelphia Orchestra canceled its tour earlier this month, while Angela Gheorghiu postponed her concerts in China. Meanwhile, a number of companies closed their doors such as the Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma and the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
