The goal of this non-profit is to create a world where no family pet dies due to financial hardship – and they’ve saved over 2,000 lives.
Veterinary bills can be expensive. When dogs and cats suffer from life-threatening diseases and injuries, these bills can skyrocket. Unfortunately, lack of funds prevent many pet parents from accepting treatment for their pet, and in cases where the prognosis is good, this obstacle is devastating. Troubled by this issue that plagues so many families, the Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) provides financial grants for animal owners who are unable to afford the cost of their pet’s emergency or critical care.
This not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity was created in 2006 to combat the problem of “economic euthanasia” – the tragedy that occurs when pet owners are forced to euthanize their beloved companion animals because they cannot afford emergency veterinary care. FACE typically assists low-income families, senior citizens, veterans, military families, students, disabled individuals, or hard-working families and individuals who struggle to survive paycheck to paycheck. “Our vision is to create a world where no family pet dies due to financial hardship,” says Rachel Rothstein, communications and events manager at FACE. To date, FACE has assisted nearly 2,300 local pets by providing financial grants in partnership with over 165 veterinary partners throughout San Diego County for pet owners in need.
