National Para Canoeing and Rowing: Nigeria receives major boost for Paralympics

The International Canoe Federation has identified four Para Athletes with the potential to break into the world stage and possibly fly Nigeria’s flag at the Paralympic Games in 2020.

The standout performers were selected at the recently concluded Para Canoeing and Rowing National Competition in Lagos where the ICF classifiers worked with Nigerian Para Athletes for three days.

Secretary of the Nigeria Rowing, Canoe and Sailing Federation, Olubunmi Oluode, revealed that among other things the Athletes “will be able to represent Nigeria at the next World Cup in Poland.”

‘We had international classifiers coming to classify our Athletes and they have been happy with what they’ve seen and have been able to identify four Athletes from here that will be able to represent the Country in the next World Cup in Poland.

‘They’ll (Athletes) also be going for the international classification and of the four, hopefully, we’ll have those able to go for the Paralympic qualification later this year. So we could present an Athlete at the Paralympics next year,’ Olubunmi told brila.net.
