May 2018 Neighborhood Association Elections

Each May, the Neighborhood Association holds elections for its all-volunteer board.

Some of the board positions available are Secretary, Treasurer, Land Use, Communications, SE Uplift Representative, and more — including delegate positions to fit your passion (emergency preparedness, community garden, youth and family, and more!).

There’s no easier way to get to know your neighborhood than by volunteering on a committee or as a board member. (Foster-Powell residents need to attend just three meetings to be eligible to serve on the board.)

Put your ideas to work and pick up a few new skills along the way!

Volunteer Spotlight

Ellie Russell,
Communications Chair

What interested you in joining the board? My family and I bought a house in Foster-Powell knowing that the neighborhood was rapidly improving, and I wanted to be part of that. Being a stay-at-home mom, I knew I could positively contribute my time to my community while also learning new skills and making connections for myself.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering for the neighborhood association? It provides great opportunities for civic engagement and for learning about small-scale politics. It's fascinating to be part of many conversations about the the issues Portland is facing as a city. I'm always meeting new people and learning about the interesting things they do. Additionally, I enjoy the flexibility of volunteering and shaping my own experience.

What's your favorite thing about Foster-Powell? While I also love our community of people, my absolute favorite thing about Foster-Powell is that it is tightly bound by three major thoroughfares that form the shape of a triangle. Our neighborhood is clearly defined, geographically, which helps it to have a strong identity and close connection among the residents.
