Edinburgh crowned most attractive UK city to live and work while Glasgow lands sixth spot

A number of factors such as job opportunities, education and healthcare decided where each city ranked
 

EDINBURGH has been crowned most attractive UK city to live and work in beating London and Manchester.

A study carried out by the Royal Mail which examined cities on a number of different factors such as job opportunities, education and healthcare.

The Scottish capital topped the list because of its green spaces, level of education and healthcare in the city.

It narrowly beat London which came in second place followed closely by Bristol.

On average those living in Scotland rake in £110 less per week than those living in London but overall Edinburgh ranked higher.

Edinburgh was also the second-highest earning city with those living in the Scottish capital earning a wage of £578 a week and the city also boasts a 70.8 per cent employment rate.

While Glasgow was placed number six in the study.

Impressively Bristol came in third overall but was rated the best for job opportunities.

Housing affordability was best in Liverpool, which was ranked number 10 overall. Manchester just managed to crack the top five.

Royal Mail spokesman David Gold said: "This new research from Royal Mail shows there is hot competition among the UK's leading cities to be the most attractive location for people to live and work in.

He added: "'Edinburgh has the edge on other economically significant UK cities.

"Bristol also performs well in categories including job opportunities, healthcare, business community and culture."

Edinburgh council leader Adam McVey said: "The facts demonstrating the city’s attributes are plentiful and our own statistics in Edinburgh by Numbers show that Edinburgh is a vibrant capital city with a diverse economy, an increasing population with strong investment potential."
