Men's Tennis Hosts The Citadel Thursday for Senior Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (6-8) closes out its home schedule this Thursday against their cross-town rival The Citadel Bulldogs (8-19) for a Senior Night showdown scheduled for 7 p.m.

Among those being honored on senior night are Juan Estevarena and Ryan Kahn, both of whom play their final home match for CofC after spending the past three seasons in the maroon and white. Estevarena transferred to the College from Mississippi State after his freshman year, while Kahn did so as a transfer from Wagner.

The Cougars come off a split outing in the western United States, defeating UC Riverside 5-2 before narrowly falling 4-3 in Hurricane, Utah against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. As has become customary for him, Benedikt Henning was a perfect 4-0 across singles and doubles play for the trip, and currently owns records of 9-4 in singles play and 10-1 in doubles action.

The Cougars and Bulldogs are very familiar with one another through the years in a matchup CofC has dominated recently. Since falling to The Citadel 4-3 in his first year with the College, head coach Jay Bruner has led his team to victory in each of the past nine seasons, most recently beating them 5-2 last year.

The Bulldogs will play the Cougars at Patriots Point on Thursday night after first hosting Virginia Wesleyan at their own Earle Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. The Bulldogs have yet to defeat a Division I opponent this season, with their wins coming against Benedict, Coker, Erskine, USC Sumter, Belmont Abbey, Rose-Hulman and Eastern Florida State. Nine of the 17 players on their roster have logged time in singles for The Citadel, the most successful of whom has been Gavin Stewart, who's posted an 11-11 dual record across the middle and lower flights.

Admission to all CofC home tennis matches is free of charge. Live stats will be made available at CofCStats.com
