Gordon Ramsay leads tributes to Anthony Bourdain following US chef’s tragic suicide

Ramsay said he was "stunned and saddened" to hear of the death of his fellow chef while many other famous faces have left tributes online

GORDON Ramsay has lead the tributes to Anthony Bourdain after the US celebrity chef was found dead.

The popular television personality - who had worked for CNN since 2013 - died in an apparent suicide in a hotel room in Strasbourg, France.

He was found unresponsive in his hotel room by close friend and fellow chef Eric Ripert this morning.

The broadcaster released a statement confirming his death, saying: "It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain.

"His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller.

"His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."

Tributes have been flooding in for the adored TV chef, including from Marco Pierre White and Nigella Lawson.

And now Gordon Ramsay has joined in with the messages of love for Bourdain.

He said: "Stunned and saddened by the loss of Anthony Bourdain. He brought the world into our homes and inspired so many people to explore cultures and cities through their food. Remember that help is a phone call away."

Lawson tweeted: “Heartbroken to hear about Tony Bourdain’s death. Unbearable for his family and girlfriend. Am going off twitter for a while.”

And British chef Pierre White wrote: “Anthony Bourdain was the Hemingway of gastronomy.”

Scots author Ian Rankin and musician Alex Kapranos also shared their thoughts.

Author Rankin said: "Bloody hell. Just found out about @Bourdain - we had some great nights in great cities. Raconteur with a case of knives. RIP."

And Franz Ferdinand frontman Kapranos added: "RIP Anthony Bourdain. I read and loved Kitchen Confidential while I was working as a chef at Groucho St Jude in Glasgow. It was the first book since Down and Out In Paris and London that captured some of the intensity, danger and excitement of life in a kitchen."

Anthony Bourdain was on record talking about his love for Glasgow and Scotland, particularly the warmth of the people and the countryside.
