Longtime Panathinaikos president and owner Pavlos Giannakopoulos has passed away at the age of 89.
The father of current team president Dimitris Giannakopoulos passed away following a short illness.
A stable in Panathinaikos sport, the Giannakopoulos brothers managed Panathinaikos’ basketball, volleyball, and all amateur sports teams, from athletics to water polo from 1987 to 2012.
Their involvement with the basketball team though proved to be their greatest success, in both domestic and European competitions.
Giannakopoulos won the EuroLeague Executive of the Year in 2011 before handing the reigns to his son Dimitris a year later.
