Pete the Pro says

Hello Golfers,

Africa’s Major

The biggest golf tournament on the SA golf schedule has arrived with the best players on the European Tour all looking to tame the beast that is the Gary Player CC at Sun City.

The course is in near perfect condition and although they haven’t had much rain in this part of the world over the last few months, the green-keeping team have done an incredible job in preparing a truly world class golf course. The greens are as good as they have ever been and I can’t remember ever seeing them roll out as well as they did in the practice round yesterday.

There are thunderstorms forecast during the practice rounds which would soften the course but as always this course rewards those that are striking it well and are able to attack flags from the fairways. With such small greens, the players pretty much know the flag placements for the week but with green speeds close on 12ft on the flat, (14ft on the down) some of the break lines they’ll have to play will be incredibly hard to trust and if you’re putting from the wrong side of the slope, it will be almost impossible to get the ball to stop.

To me this course is all about driving it well. You have to be so accurate with your iron play as the greens are so small. If you’re missing fairways you simply won’t be able to get the ball close enough to the flags and you can’t compete on this layout if you’re chipping and putting for par all the time. The players who can be aggressive off the tee and find the short grass will most likely be up there come Sunday and as we’ve seen in the past, if a player can get hot on the greens, low scores are always on the cards.

I’ll be up here until Friday and although Branden and I have had only a few days of prep together, his game is in great shape and I’m rooting for him to have a big week on a course that has given him some incredible memories.

Onto some shop news and we’ve just unpacked some fantastic new product from Cleveland and Cobra Golf and as you’ll see by the pics below, both ranges should be a massive hit especially with the lower swing speed golfers looking for added distance and the most forgiveness possible.

We’ve also received brand new clothing from adidas, Pringle and US Polo and our apparel ranges for this summer look to be some of the best we’ve ever had.

We also have a number of demo days coming up over the next few weeks so make sure you diarize the dates below and come test the best products in the game both on the range and in store.

Until next week,
Pete

Big rain forecast for Knysna

As you’re all aware the next 72 hours doesn’t look very good for our area. Weather warnings have been issued throughout the region with high winds and huge amounts of rainfall forecast from later today. It’s impossible to really predict the rain especially with the winds coming out the east so my advice is to take it easy and stay off the roads if you can.

If we do get big rain then it’s unlikely that the driving range will be open this week but we will keep you posted throughout the next few days.

New arrivals - Just unpacked!

New irons and woods from Cobra Golf and Cleveland Golf

New opening hours for summer

We have now changed our operating hours for summer. Please see below our opening and closing times for both the Shop and the Range.

Please note that we will have extended hours over the Christmas period but these will be communicated closer to the time.

Last balls at the range will be at 17:30 during the week and at 13:30 on Saturdays. Please do your best to be there before last balls are called as it gives our team enough time to collect before the sun goes down.

Scratch Golf on Thesen will now close at 6 pm during the week and 2 pm on Saturdays.
