Breaking Everly

Two hearts. One extraordinary connection. A love like no other…

Everly.
From the moment I laid eyes on him at the age of fourteen, I knew he was my forever.
We made memories.
We shared our dreams.
He was my world.
But one night, everything changed.
My beautiful life was ripped apart, my heart broken into thousands of pieces, and my only hope of finding freedom was to run.
Life became dark—unbearable—until devastation hit again.
Now, the only way to heal my heart is to make a promise that will break his.

Adam.
Her smile stole my heart the very second I saw her.
Her eyes became my home and I knew our love would last forever.
But then, everything changed.
She was my world, my only love, and I have spent years trying to figure what I did to lose her.
I resigned myself to the fact I wasn’t going to see her again, until fate played its role.
Now she’s back, but as much as I want to help her to heal, I’m still working on fixing my own heart— the one she broke.

KLJ lives in South West England just on the edge of Dartmoor where the moorland goes on for days. It's beautiful, breath-taking and occasionally rather wet. She probably swears way more than she should, her mum makes the best cupcakes in history, and she goes weak at the knees for a man with a five o'clock shadow.

Breaking Everly is outside my usual reading zone. I’ve been doing a few of these lately. I was drawn to this book because I really liked K.L. Jessop’s last book. Emotional reads are an area I don’t venture into often, however I enjoyed this one.

Two people madly in love torn apart by an ugly complication. Adam and Everly were young when they first felt their connection. Both knew they had something special. Yet sometimes love isn’t enough.

Ten years later the pair are reunited. Their passed hinders the future, but when something is meant to be fate gives a helping hand.

Everly and Adam are a sweet romantic couple. They have beautiful words for each other. Now it’s time for them to take action. Words can only do so much.

This is a raw gritty read. The people closest to you aren’t always good for you. Sometimes you know it and don’t do anything about it until it’s too late. Finding a way back involves facing a past that’s been buried.

This one does come with a trigger warning which some readers may find distributing. No actually graphic details are given, but the event(s) is ugly.

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This could have been a semi nice 2nd chance, but yet again, Hero gets to move on & f**k other women while heroine is frozen. I only got to 35% before I DNF'd because honestly I am tired of 2nd chance stories that always have Hero moving on to OW.

Granted, I understand he was hurt & angry that heroine left him without explanation, but couldn't we have some 2nd chance romances in which the MCs stay celibate & true to each other? Is that so hard to ask?

I loved the bond & true love that this couple had in the beginning, but when it ruined it for me to learn he couldn't have kept it in his pants (even if he didn't have all the facts). Jeez!

This is my own personal opinion & pet peeves. I just find that every darn 2nd chance these days always has to have the same trope of 10 year separation & Hero f**king everything in sight. That does not make me believe in their HEA or "love" if he can move on to OP. Nope. Not happening.

Also, I like my heroines strong and this one was not. I feel she was too much of a coward for majority of the story and while I get she suffered a truly horrendous experience, at some point, readers cannot invest in a character or a couple if one of them is too much of a coward to even talk to the damn Hero - much less face her demons and win. For these reasons, the story didn't work for me.....

Breaking Everly is grittily intense, heart-wrenching, high angst, emotional, while also being wholly beautiful, poignant, and moving. Everly and Adam’s story is a raw, complex, and break your heart kind of book. The rawness and realness of Everly and her journey is one that will you keep you turning the pages.

K.L. Jessop brings her A game when it comes to understanding the ins and outs of Everly descent into a lonely and dark place - one that seems almost impossible to pull herself out of because of the emotional and physical damage that has been inflicted upon her. All of Everly’s emotional torment, self doubt, and steps forward and back truly show her struggles and just how horrifically difficult it is for her to regain herself…to regain control after everything has been stripped from her.

Breaking Everly is a beautiful, heart wrenching story about two people finding love again after circumstances kept them apart. This story is so much more than a romance. It’s a story of a woman’s journey to overcoming a horrifying situation and trusting in those that care about her and believing in the power of love and overcoming her demons. It’s a story of two star crossed lovers finally being pulled back together, showing that love can overcome anything, even the most heartbreaking truths.

I had a difficult time getting into Breaking Everly at first, don't know why...but once I turned that corner I was hooked!! Everly and Adam are soul mates and know they will be together forever, that is until something happens that breaks them both and has Everly running without explanation to Adam. Fast forward 10 years and Everly comes back home to be with her parents, her dad is sick but she plans to leave again at her first opportunity, then she runs into Adam but can't deal so she escapes...he wants answers, he blames himself for Everly breaking his heart, wonders what he did....he could never guess what actually drove her away, she has no plans to tell him but they start spending time together again and start to try to be friends again, then one night they have this huge fight and Everly tells him everything!! This book was soooo hard to read, your heart will break for both Everly and Adam...After all the secrets are brought to light can they find their way back to what they had...or be even better? You'll just have to read this book to find out!!

Breaking Everly is a tale of great love and an even greater loss. It will tug at your heart and you start to feel what Everly and Adam are going through. Their happy moments and their low moments. Your heart will break right along with them but you find yourself cheering for them to come through the other side stronger than they were before.

Adam has always loved Everly since the moment he laid eyes on her. She rocked his world with a simple smile and he knew she was it for him. Sure, love is always we will be together forever at 14 but Adam just knew Everly was his forever. His home life wasn’t great his mom was unhappy in a second marriage and his stepbrother was pure evil. He had taken the fall for him many times but the day he met Everly that all stopped and caused an even bigger riff and even more sinister plans to develop in Jamie’s head. Everly loved Adam he was her forever. She had the perfect boyfriend and perfect home life with two loving parents that were her everything.Life was going so good and on the greatest night of their lives it became the nightmare she couldn’t wake from. She was withdrawn and sullen and she is unsure how to proceed with life. Flash forward ten years and her and Adam are staring down the barrel of their past and trying to figure out how to move forward and make all those future plans a reality with such a heavy burden hovering over them. Love and loss are all Everly and Adam know.

I really did like this book and I noticed only one inconsistency that stood out for me. Despite the circumstances and the way it was described in the book Adam should have noticed what happened with Everly the next morning. I don’t want to get into it because it might be a spoiler but hopefully the author knows what I’m talking about. I hated hated hated Jamie. I mean loathed him he was a useless human being and deserved far more than what he got. I really liked Everly she was vivacious and I think coped to the best of her ability even if that made her sullen and hiding in her apartment bleeding her pain on canvas. Adam is the one that I felt had the best reactions. He felt so much anger, yet he loved her so much he just didn’t know how to act. This book isn’t light and fluffy it’s full of pain and rage but underneath it love prevails.

Wow, what a breathtaking and emotional story that literally breaks you and then slowly puts you back together again. Breaking Everly takes hold from the first chapter and doesn't let go until the end. It's one of the most moving stories I've read in a while and you'll need a box of tissues at your side ready. There were times I found myself sat there rubbing my chest as my heart literally ached for this couple.

“You are the night sky to my morning sun. You are and always will be the light of my life. My world would be nothing without you, Everly Rose Braithwaite. I love you now and forever.” - Adam to Everly

The story is in two parts as we first join Everly and Adam when the future seems bright and the love they share can conquer all. But evil isn't far away and suddenly this couple's dreams seem to crumble away. Then we rejoin Everly and Adam 10 years later as we see them dealing with the consequences of a person's actions. The words used by KL Jessop put you right there with Everly and Adam every step of the way, and she shows so well the journey and mixture of emotions Everly goes through as she tries to find her way out of the darkness.

'I want to forever live, sleep and consume what he’s made me feel these past few days because, for the first time in as long as I can remember, I’m starting to breathe again.' - Everly

Despite having first read this book two months ago, it still has the power to bring tears to my eyes and have me wanting to read it all over again. This 5 star heart wrenching story of survival and love is one book that you have to read! Just make sure to have those tissues ready ♥

Adam & Everly were fated to be together, and they NEVER thought anything could break them apart. However, life is a funny thing & when it hits, sometimes it's more than anyone can bear, and life was definitely mean to these two, as an very ugly situation broke them up. They're apart for 10 years before fate steps back in to reunite them. Their past baggage made it hard for them to move forward, but again, fate was on their side thankfully. This story tried to break me with all the angst, and I'm not talking about just an easy push & pull situation. Nope, it was raw, gritty, and punched me hard in the feels, so I felt my eyes leaking more than once, as the pain seeped out of my kindle to wreck me. It's not an easy story, there's trigger warnings, but the amazing K.L. Jessop didn't go into detail about that dark time, but it was powerful enough that you can definitely physically feel the hurt, as it was very realistic in the aftermath. And I have to talk about the twists that come out to play, making sure I drop f-bombs right & left. I'm not going to keep going on, as I really believe deep down that this is one of those stories that you have to go in blindly, but have your tissues ready. If you want to know what went down, and how it all pans out in the end, you'll have to one click this extreme emotional ride! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I just don't know where to start and end with this review there is so much I want to say but wont and the rest the words wont do it justice. 10 years ago they were the couple that everyone knew without a doubt would stand the test of time. 10 years ago that all changed in the blink of an eye. Jealousy, vengeance and pure freaking evil showed it's ugly face and tore them to shreds. I haven't read this authors individual work but had read a collaboration or two, I wasn't ready. The pure raw emotion in her characters just bout ripped me to shreds. The pain, the strength, the rawness, the skill, the finesse this author shares and makes you feel all the way down to your scaly toenails is in there. You can't sidestep it. The story is well told and balanced so the pain and the anguish is not over the top. The heroine gets to show her strength and fortitude. way before you have any inkling to strangle her.

It's not a pretty story, it will definitely touch you. I can honestly say that after reading it I will be looking into more of this author's work. I love that her story isn't about the level of steam and passion she can write into the story but more about you the reader feeling and imaging it. The love these characters shared was strong enough to help both of them mend and heal because Everly was truly not the only one broken.

Breaking Everly
So this book excited me because the story takes place in pretty much my little corner of the world. I’m from the Lake District, which is where this book is set and often visit Keswick and the surrounding areas.
So this is a second chance love story and it’s so heartbreaking. Adam and Everly are childhood sweethearts, in fact I’d go as far as to say they were soulmates. But something so horrible and terrible happens and it breaks them apart. Leaving them both heartbroken but for different reasons.
Ten years pass and events bring them back together again. It’s so obvious that they are both still clearly in love with each other.
But Everly is still traumatised by her past and although she’s desperate to move past it she really struggles. But the connection between Everly and Adam is still there and they both start to heal each other.
This book deals with a very heavy subject matter but it’s done in a way that’s sensitive. I really enjoyed this book and really liked both the characters.
I received an arc for an honest review.

I have been lucky enough to read this book a number of times now and every time I am overwhelmed by the emotion packed into the story.

Breaking Everly is KL Jessop’s best book to date. The storyline, the characters, the feels, the raw emotion makes this a rollercoaster of a story.

Adam and Everly are superb characters. This is a second chance romance. Adam and Everly were everything to one another; engaged and planning a long future together.

When their future is taken away from them for Everly there is only one thing to do... but 10 years later when the two are thrown back together again, can they find their way back to each other once again? And can they move past their demons and the things that have traumatised them in the past?

This story is romantic, raw, emotional yet uplifting and beautifully written. A intense and powerful journey that will pull at your heart strings and definitely create a tear or two in your eyes!

Talk about an emotional read! This is not light-hearted, it is tough and makes you acknowledge horrible truths. That being said, it might have been angst, but there is also light at the end of the tunnel because Everly and Adam love each other so much. The question is just if they can get over everything that happened and live their HEA.

Everly is one of the strongest heroines I have read in a while, and this book shows that you have to be able to love yourself before you can love someone else and she has a hard road to go, but it isn't impossible when you have someone that believes and loves you whole heartedly at your site.

This book will break your heart at the inhumane way people can be treated, but also gives you hope. I highly recommend checking out this book and give it a 4.5 outta 5!

I received an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

“Breaking Everly was a mix of love and lost. It was a breathtaking and extremely emotional story. My heart was broken and then recovered slowly. Chapter after chapter I was more engaged, not wanting to stop until the end.

Adam and Everly love was fated and fierce. Their love was powerful, intense, strong and against everything until life tear them apart. Their forever simply vanished. Until circumstances bring them back together after 10 years but their past are still haunting them.

This book was tough and brutally honest. I’m warning you, this book will crack you heart and mess up with your mind. A rollercoaster of emotions that I highly recommend you!"

Everly and Adam had an everlasting love, until they are torn apart by circumstances. Now 10 years later fate brings them back together, but will they be able to have a 2nd chance? No spoilers; this is a story which is an emotional roller coaster journey throughout. This is a beautifully written, poignant story, which is filled with angst, and is a complex, raw, gritty, intense, heartbreaking, and all consuming and powerful read. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, but be aware this does contain triggers for some readers!

ERMERGERD! All the feels!

This book was edge of your seat, nail biting angst with a high dose of WHAT THE ACTUAL EFF (yes, I sent a message containing those words to the author!)

It starts out so sweet, it makes you jealous of the amazing relationship between Adam and Everly.
Soon, it becomes a tangled mess of emotions- anger, heartbreak, hope and relief only to throw you back to WTAF?!

A definite roller coaster of feelings.

But, that ending was freaking awesome! I was left feeling so happy 😍 albeit a little bit broken.

This one took me a while to finish, the storyline broke my heart in alotta ways, i could connect to Everly on a deep level in this book which in a way, is great, it sucked me in hook line and sinker. I absolutely adored this story, it broke me, put me together, broke me again, put me back together and then did it all over again. It gripped me, yes i had to put to the side for a while, that wasn't because i didnt love the book, it was because of the emotions the book made me feel while going through a tough time in life. But i cannot express how much this story touched me, i feel that one day i shall pick this book up again & read it all in one sitting ❤️

This story broke me just a little bit! A second chance romance with so much heart, so much sadness but so much love. If two people were ever fated to be together it is Adam and Everly. But the journey to Ever After is never easy.

The sheer emotions in this book were enough to bring me to tears several times. There are some issues in this book and it's certainly not a light read. But the beautiful writing and how the issues were handled was perfect.

This book will stay with me, it was poignant, passionate and heartbreaking. And I will definitely be reading more from Ms Jessop.

Breaking Everly is such an incredible and emotional read. The emotions are gritty and real, you feel everything along with them.

Adam and Everly were made for each other and you could see it when they were young. They were incredibly sweet and my heart broke for them when they were torn apart.

My heart hurt so bad at everything Everly went through and the pain it caused both her and Adam. I loved Adam’s reactions, his anger and love were so prominent. He nearly broke me. They both have healing to do and Everly struggles to bring herself out of the dark place she’s been in.

This is one of Jessop’s best books to date, definitely her most emotional. I can’t recommend this enough. It deals with some sensitive subjects, not graphically but they are very ugly. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful and emotionally raw.

The emotion. The heartbreak. The loss. This book absolutely wrecked me, piece by piece, but then slowly put it all back together. It is a book of second chances, turmoil, and an overall love story that all romance lovers will truly fall in love with. The authors words leap off the page at you as you read. I swear, I am part of this world.

It is a book that stays with you long after the last word. It will make you obsess and stay up site to finish. This author is a genius at writing. It has so many parts of a romance anyone will love.

Everly and Adam. What a couple. They have been through SO MUCH!! I could feel myself hurting for them. It was a tale of heartbreak, second chances and trying to overcome the past.
