Not sure about you, but I’m a big fan of keeping my office up to date with the holidays upcoming and whatever season I’m currently experiencing. There’s something fun about making your office feel at home and not just a dull, bland little space to do your work. Besides, who doesn’t enjoy setting out decorations to match the time of year?

Now that summer has officially arrived (isn’t it funny how a specific day marks a season’s beginning despite the weather saying “It’s summer!” almost a month before now?), I’m looking forward to updating all my spring decor and making it more summery. The good thing is that I have a lot of greenery in my office space, and that can still work well with summer. That’s less work for me!

Let’s get into some of the things you can do to change the feel and atmosphere of your office up.

I’ll always say this when it comes to changing up your scenery: Change your background and/or screensaver on your computer to match the mood you want for your office space. Blank screens are so boring. If you can get a nice screensaver that is summery or bright, you’re more likely to feel that way when you walk in and log on for the day. But if it’s just a blank screen? Well, you’ve probably got blank walls too and don’t enjoy your job.

From succulents and other houseplants to fake decor plants, there’s no quicker way to show you’re ready for summer than some vegetation soaking up the sun. I’ve found that bringing a few cheap moving boxes in and setting my plants in them works best to avoid soil or water getting everywhere.

Boats, water, swimwear, sunny days, and sand all spell summer, especially for anyone who doesn’t live in subtropical areas that get it year round. Don’t be afraid to pick up a few cheap figurines that are nautical by nature. They’ll look cute on your desk or end tables in your office!

When I say summer decor and mention the holidays, the biggest one that springs to mind is the 4th of July. American flags, anything with firework art, and grilling or barbecue motifs fit the bill best here. Drop by your local craft shop this summer and you’ll find a slew of this stuff. If you’re getting a lot, take a few cheap moving boxes with you to carry them all back to your car or into your office.
