VIRAL Scottish singer Denise Ferrie was convicted of attacking a cop while slinging racist abuse, court documents have revealed.

Her rap sheet included assaulting a police officer, racially aggravated harassment and breaking into a building with the intent to commit theft.

She also pleaded guilty to a separate assault in 2015.

Ferrie, from Coatbridge, became an overnight celebrity when footage emerged of her paying tribute to her late mum Elizabeth McGeogh at Coltswood cemetery by belting out My Boy Lollipop.

The performance earned her the nickname Feminem, while her new-found fame saw her book a sell-out gig at Bar Budda in Glasgow, as well as a string of local gigs.

And she returned to the stage this week performing her own rendition of a remixed Gerry Cinnamon track.

Last month, she was pictured bolting from court where she faced five charges including failing to appear at an earlier hearing and not completing a community payback order.

But the reasons behind the punishment were not known at the time.

Last month, Nicky Matteo, defending, said: "“It is not the case that she tried to hide from the police and her life seems to be going in the right direction. She had a horrific upbringing and is a vulnerable person.”

Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart responded: “If she is able to perform on stage then her mental health must be tickety-boo."

Ferrie's proceedings have been rescheduled for June 13 because of the unavailability of reports.
