The Terror Will Be Back for a Nightmarish Season 2

The Terror will continue to add its unique twist to historic events. AMC has renewed the gripping horror drama for Season 2.

The new season will be set during World War II and follow the horrific journey of Japanese-Americans from life in Southern California to internment camps and war in the Pacific. Season 2 will be executive-produced by True Blood's Alexander Woo with Godzilla's Max Borenstein serving as the new showrunner. 10 new episodes are expected to arrive sometime in 2019.

This storyline is a far cry from Season 1, which was based on the book of the same name by Dan Simmons, followed the British Royal Navy's catastrophic expedition to find the Northwest Passage through Canada in the 1840s. As the crew sailed the freezing waters, they found themselves being haunted by a menacing creature.

Soo Hugh, who served as co-showrunner and executive producer on Season 1, previously told TV Guide that the series was always meant to be an anthology series. "When AMC greenlit the show now almost three years ago, they greenlit it as an anthology show," she said. "Meaning Season 1 would be the story of the Franklin Expedition, and subsequent seasons would take on a new narrative that carried the DNA that we established in Season 2."

How The Terror Became One of TV's Best Horror Series

While the new season will take place in a different time and place and feature an all-new cast, you can expect to see that familiar theme of terror, supernatural mystique and historical drama intertwined in the new episodes.

The Terror returns for Season 2 in 2019.
