Woman hit by train in Inverclyde as emergency crews lock down busy line

A WOMAN was hit by a train in Inverclyde - forcing the railway to be locked down.

Emergency services - including police, fire and ambulance crews - raced to the scene at around 8.54pm last night.

In a Tweet, ScotRail said: "Sadly, someone has been struck by a train between Port Glasgow and Gourock.

"Services between Glasgow Central and Gourock will be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Port Glasgow."

British Transport Police were also on the scene.

And officers have now confirmed that a woman was hit by the train.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

But her condition is not known.

Cops said they weren't treating the incident as suspicious.

A spokesperson for the force said: "On Friday, a female was injured after being struck by a train whilst at Cartsdyke Railway Station in Greenock.

"The incident was reported to police at 8.54pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Officers from BTP and Police Scotland attended the incident, along with the local ambulance service.

"The female was taken to the local for treatment."
