HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaiian Airlines ramp agent who admitted stealing a gun from checked luggage at Kahului Airport has been sentenced to federal prison.

Kahai Lindsey, who was 28 when he was arrested, said he removed the Glock pistol from a gun case that was unlatched and unlocked in June 2016. He got the firearm out of the airport wrapped in a bag.

The gun case came in a flight from Los Angeles to Kahului.

Federal Court Judge Helen Gillmore sentenced Lindsey to one year plus one day in prison. He will begin serving the sentence in August.

Two other Hawaiian Airlines employees who were arrested at the same time as Lindsey have apparently not been prosecuted, but the airline says they have been on unpaid leave since the accusations were made.
